Rosie

I tossed my blonde locks restlessly and gazed desperately at the phone. I had been two whole days since I had seen or heard anything from Jim. Why hadn't he called? Maybe Lucy was right...

I peered out of the battered window, and gazed into the hell-like world that surrounded me. Through the cracks and dents of the glass, I could just about make out a crumbly reddish floor. Some parts were alight, emitting little light, others were not. I looked up into the bloodstained sky... There was no sun, moon or even stars. It had been that way for what I thought to be two whole days.

My watch was going berserk. The hands were whizzing around like an F1 driver on a racing track. All I wanted, was to go home.

"Sending in supplies to Sector 2283, ma'am," he informed me.

"Good," I replied, "Once they have arrived, take the 'copter into Sector 2132; strange signals have been reported from that area.

"Yes, ma'am," he continued, "Right away, ma'am."
