Four days after the envoys arrived in Nadeau, the people assembled to celebrate Prince Henry's twenty-fifth birthday, and with it, his coronation. Most of the city gathered around the front palace wall to catch a glimpse of King Malcolm the Merciful, and his son, Prince Henry. People gathered from many of the surrounding villages to also witness the inauguration of their new king. But more than anything else, the people were anxious to see who the new queen would be.
King Malcom the Merciful had married a beautiful young maiden the same year of his inauguration from a village in the eastern part of the kingdom. His marriage was part of a long-standing tradition to marry a maiden from the kingdom, who was at least sixteen years old, to represent the people to the king.
Malcom the Merciful's late wife was Luella. She was graceful, poised, and beautiful. From the time she was a child, her whole village loved her. It was as if Luella was destined to marry the new king, Malcom. Luella had blond hair, fair skin, and sparkling brown eyes that would grab your attention the moment you laid eyes on her. Her face was lightly sprinkled with freckles that gave her an eternal youthful appearance. Her frame was slender and tall, and she always carried herself with dignity. When she died in giving birth to Prince Henry, the nation mourned for her greater than any past queen or past king. When Prince Henry became a lad, and showed himself to be an obnoxious tyrant, the kingdom mourned even greater that his mother wasn't there to temper her son and pass on her loving disposition.
Twenty-five years after Luella's death, the nation was anxious to know who would be the next queen. There was much hoping and anticipation for the wife of Prince Henry to be similar to his mother, Luella. Many believed that if King Malcom the Merciful chose a wife for his son that matched closely to his own wife in character, she might save the kingdom from the cruelty of the new monarch.
For almost ten years, the kingdom's subjects prayed for what they coined as, Palace balance. The villages began to paint symbols on their houses and barns of a straight line centered over a triangle, representing balance.
As the festivities were in wait to commence, and the streets became crowded with subjects cheering for the king and the soon-to-be crowned prince, the palace became a frenzy with nobles, dignitaries, and servants scrambling to serve them food and refreshments.
