Arizona
I live in a trailer that was either built in the 70’s or its 70’s themed. The kitchen sink had dirty dishes piled and the dining room table made me singe it had paper work, empty beer cans, and cigarette buds, making it look so cluttered and messy I gritted my teeth. Drew was quiet and so I lead him straight to the parlor which was at the end of the hallway and back of the house. I should call it my room since it’s my room but I don’t. I sat on the sofa and Drew joined me.
He pulled out his phone and his fingers moved swiftly while typing his message. Then he shifted his weight to put his phone back in his pocket. “So let me get this straight.” He turned sideways and put his elbow on the top of back pillows. I do the same to face him, are knees touch, “By far the most beautiful girl I met isn’t a popular, isn’t a cheerleader, and isn’t noticed on a daily basis?”
I smile, “That’s flattering but you seriously need to understand there are different types of girls in high school besides them.” His pinhead brain is going to be the death of me. I shook my head thinking of his terrible grades and how many sports he probably plays.
Drew grew a goofy smile and replied, “What? Of course I knew that. That is what makes high school!” I smirked. He pulled out his phone read the message, smiled and set it on his lap.
“This isn’t some movie y’know, high school with these perfect poplars’ that are mean to the nerds. Then the hottest guy in school chases after the lowest life and in the end everyone becomes best friends by graduation.” I can’t help but rant about the Hollywood Disney high school everyone dreams about.
He shook his head but that goofy but drop dead gorgeous smile still plastered his face. “Sure as hell sounds like it. I mean where have you been in this ‘High School Musical’ and wait I’m the hottest guy in school?” His eyes light up like the fourth of July.
“Oh my I called you cute now please get in my pants.” I roll my eyes in sarcasm. But I try to keep my face plain from the laughter built inside. “And, ‘High school Musical’ kidding me?” He nodded and I laughed.
And that was how the rest of the night went. He would try to make conversation I would say my stand point on the topic he would just smile until it came to the point he wanted to break my walls that took years to build.
“So why are you still dodging the small questions? You can tell me your life story but not what your favorite subject is because,” He cleared his throat, “School subjects are not favorited they’re categorized for the ones we can stand the most.” Drew mocked in a high pitch noise.
“I love how we are taught that girls sound like this when we quote guys just like I like how guys were taught to sound like that when they quote girls.” His smile finally faded. Drew just stared into my eyes and I did to his. I couldn’t look at him any longer so I looked at the clock on the wall. 3:56 AM. Goddamn Dad and Savanah, my aunt/step mother, just need to rent the Motel 6 out and live there because it’s rare to see them home during the weekend. I look back at Drew, and I push down my second wall. I let him into my realm time to say goodnight. “It’s seriously late I’m going to call it a night.”
He hoped up and grabbed his phone, “My call for I’m boring and must leave.” I didn’t really hear him because I was too busy turning the couch into a bed because I am so classy I sleep on a pull out couch.
“It means you should really help me with this whole ‘guys are strong’ because I never actually, really, pull it out unless I feel like it.” I turned and bit my lip and like a dog to a whistle he came and helped right along. I pushed down another wall.
Once the bed was fixed we high fived and then just stared at it, like it was supposed to do something amazing. After we gave up hope we looked at each other. I am 5’4 and he is about 6’2. He’s clearly a basketball player. Maybe he does wrestling too. I could also see him as a lacrosse guy. Whatever, it doesn’t matter right now. What matters is the fact I’m looking up at him and he’s looking down at me and that was so hot it went from “High School Musical” in my head to “The Lucky One” and he’s leaning in just-
My lips parted as he kissed. There goes the last wall. I wrap my arms around him and he grabs me by my hips which made me shiver. Drew lifted me up and laid me on the, guess what creaky, bed and got on top of me. We kissed but the more we kissed the more tired I became, like a reverse Sleeping Beauty situation. I feel like it spread because I felt his lips slowly fail him so he moved to lie next to me. Then we fell asleep. That. Was. All.
