Dracos POV

September 1st 1998

Father was gone. Mother was stuck. And I was forced to return to the last place I wanted to go. But there was no backing out now, I was already waiting outside the Scarlet train and I couldn't turn back. The steam surrounded me like a blanket, but I didn't want to be in this blanket, I didn't even want to be back at the stupid school.

My mother was on house arrest and I had already been forced to say goodbye, but because of her predicament, I had to be escorted to the station by an Aurora, which, when your trying to blend in, isn't the best thing. As I stood waiting on the platform I could feel people staring at me, and worse, I could hear many more whispering. I tried to block it out but it was hard when it was all around you. I looked up at the clock and saw that the time was 10:40 and decided that I would get on the train and try and find Pansy and Blaise.

Pansy and Blaise where my only friends that were returning and I'm pretty sure I was still on good terms with both so I hoped I could just live this year in the shadows with them.  I planned to get relatively good grades and then try and get straight into work, not that anyone would really want me working for them.  I sent a quick goodbye towards the Auror that was received by a small nod and he turned and walked in the opposite direction, leaving me alone.

The train was already quite packed and it was hard to find a place to sit, but after searching for a while I found an empty compartment. After sitting with my thoughts for a minute or two I looked out the window to see a large group of what looked to be third and fourth-year girls crowding around someone. As the smoke cleared a bit I noticed who it was. I rolled my eyes, of course, it was. The large group of fangirls were all screaming for autographs from the famous Harry Potter. Imagine being loved by everyone and being talked about for only good things. I laughed at the thought of ever relating to that. That would be the day. As the train door opened the noise got louder "I LOVE YOU HARRY" "MARRY ME" "YOUR OUR SAVIOR" "LET ME KISS YOU." You know what I take back ever wanting that, Potter can keep his crazy fangirls. The door slammed closed and I saw Potter run past my compartment looking very flustered as a tall red-haired boy trailed behind him laughing.  All I heard before they disappeared was a yelled  "It's not funny Ron, It's creepy" followed by a "well I think it's funny."

Not long after, a light tap came at the compartment door. I flickered my eyes to the small window on the door and smiled as it opened.  "Pansy" I almost yelled "Draco" she smiled back at me as I wrapped her in a massive hug. "I missed you so much," I said as she sat across from me. Pansy and I  were like siblings and seeing as the both of us were on house arrest we couldn't see each other all summer.

"How was your summer," she asked, "Hell, yours" " yeah the same" she laughed, obviously trying to brighten the mood.  From spending each day in the house I'm supposed to call home, to going to many hearings I could easily say this holiday sucked.  I ran my hands through the almost white hair that lazily sat on my head. I guess I've just stopped caring. There are more important things than good hair and putting on as much hair gel as I used to. Now the sides had been cleanly cut but the top just kept growing out and as much as I flipped it to the side it just kept getting in my eyes. Not only had I started giving zero fucks about my hair, but my clothing was also greatly changing.  Instead of the black suits, my father would force me into, I starting just wearing whatever I wanted which today consisted of black jeans, a white t-shirt and a blue unbuttoned flannel.

I looked out at the hills through the dirty train window and just got lost in my thoughts. The sky was a dull grey and small rain droplets were pouring down around us. Soon after greeting Pansy, Blaise had arrived and we had closed off the compartment to anyone else. Now the two of them were fast asleep and I was left alone. After a moment of contemplating if I should go, I decided to go and get some air. I slowly got up, trying not to wake anyone, and walked over to the door.

I twisted the doorknob and prepared myself for anyone outside.  As I closed the door behind me with a semi-loud bang, heads turned. Some kids in younger years whispered and stared, a couple of first years ran away and I swear some third-year boys where pointing. I took a deep breath and leant against the wall.

"Quibbler, Quibbler, anyone want a Quibbler" I looked up to see a short girl with hair like mine, a purple coat and the most peculiar ear-rings coming my way. It couldn't hurt to get one I thought and I'm trying to be not as much of a dick this year. "err, um, I guess I'll take one" I felt into my back pocket and pulled out some money "don't worry Draco, they're free" I looked up and took one, "err, thanks Luna" "Your welcome," she said in a sing-song kind of way "your actually the first one to get one on the train, I think everyone else must have already read it before they boarded the train. I smiled up at her "yeah I guess" I didn't feel like breaking it to her that they may have had ulterior reasons for declining her offer. "bye now" she said dreamily and walked away. "Bye," I called out almost a whisper.

I leant back against the wall and closed my eyes until I felt another presence near me. I opened my eyes to see Potter in front of me looking out the corridor window. To avoid contact I opened my Quibbler and began to read the first page about rare animals.

"You know most of its not real" a voice beside me said. I looked over to potter "I know" I said simply wanting to escape this conversation. "why'd you get it then" why was he talking to me. I made his life hell and now he is talking to me about newspapers, I bet he thinks I'm just some sort of charity case. "Because" I took a pause, putting on a rude tone "didn't look like anyone had taken one, " I decided if I should continue, and I almost whispered the last part 'I, ur, I felt bad" I could see his eyebrows raise as he gave me a look, he was about to open his mouth when I stopped him. "Save it" I shot him a glare. "Now I'm sorry to cut short what I expected to be a riveting conversation but I'm going to go into my compartment" I closed my Quibbler and turned for my door. "Malfoy wait"

Authors Note: teehee imma leave you there, also while I was writing this I was listening to "divinely uninspired to a hellish extent"  and like some of the songs that didn't blow up are amazing, I love "Hollywood" and "maybe." Anyway hope you are all doing ok :)
