Graduation-The River

“We gotta go now!”….”Run!”I screamed as the moaning and the screaming got louder.

 Running down the hill , to the main road we made our way through the car as their alarms were screaming. Watching Becci and Milly run in front of me as I ran behind to protect them with the gun , I peered over my shoulder to see the shadows of people running , but they weren’t people they were screaming , moaning brain dead’s.

 “Quick in the forest we have to run , before they see us go in” I said running into the forest.

 Listening to the snaps of the twigs , leafs and branches underneath our feet as we made our way through the forest , we run as fast as we could , not looking back , there was no time for that. Looking through the gaps between each tree , the sight and smell of fresh water could be seen and smelt.

 “Water” Said Becci , bending down taking a scoop with both her hands , before throwing on her face.

 Sitting beside the river , I placed the gun beside me before placing my blistered hands in the cold refreshing water , wiping of any dirt as possible.

 “What are we going to do , keep going or stay here”Said Becci, placing her swallon bruised feet into the water.

 “Well stay here for tonight “…..”It looks like there gone and that alarm will go off , but they’ll stay there until it stops , tomorrow we will leave “I said looking out to the direction from were we came from and the car alarm is coming from.

 “What are we going to eat!”…”I’m so hungry” Said Becci holding her stomach.

 “W-what about the fish” Muttered Milly , pointing to the fish that swam in the clear water.

"But how are we going to catch them"Said Becci confused.

"Take off your stockings Becci"I said pointing to the net stockings she was wearing...."Now we just need a hoop to support it , Becci your hoop earrings as well"

Taking the net stocking and the hoop earring i tied the stocking to the earring to create a fish net to capture a fish , grabbing a strong stick i attached it to the earring from some ribbon that held Milly's hair up in two pony tails .

"There you go , now you go try to catch a fish here and i'll try to catch one at the end of the river".......I said walking to the end of the river holding the fish net in my left hand.

Walking to the end of the river I started to sway the net back and forth in the water , watching as the fish missed the net going past it , Watching as one got inside the net I quickly pull it out of the water to find a fish the size of my hand ,placing it on the bare dirty ground , I placed the net back into the water to try to catch another fish , because one wouldn't be enough.

"Rachael!"...."Come here now!"Screamed Becci from the other end of the river.

dropping the net I ran back to the start of the river , where Becci wanted be to come , turning around the tree I saw Becci standing there with Milly behind her with the gun in Becci's hand. Looking more closely I could see that Becci was pointing the gun at a man who was holding a pistol at her with a teenage boy behind him.

"What is going on here" I said revealing myself from the tree.

"Stand back "He said now pointing the gun at me..."We want your food!"

"Please put the gun down no one is going to shoot you or bring harm to you here , so please just put it down , we'll give you food , just please don't...theres a child" I said slowly walking towards him.

Watching as he placed his gun down I walked over to the pile of fish that Milly and Becci had caught , there were about three fish and with mine there were four, running back to the fish that laid beside the river , I then ran back again to place it on the pile.

"Okay..now listen there is only four fish ...unless we can catch another one were going to have to split the fish up , if we catch another one we can have one each"..."There is a net beside the river , yous go down there and try to catch fish , i'll go with Becci and we'll go get some wood for a fire, yous look after Milly"I said taking my shot gun from Becci.

"Are you stupid those brain deads will see the smoke coming from the fire!"

"No , with the amount of smoke coming from the car pile up on the main road , the smoke coming from a fire will be nothing!" I screamed walking of into the forest.

"Did you see his son , he was cute"Said Becci holding a pile of twigs and branches in her hands.

"Becci this not the time nor the place to be thinking about that sort of a thing" I said picking up a stick from the ground.I did think he was cute,but I didn't want Becci to know , this type of thing is something we shouldn't be thinking of any ways.

Walking back to the base camp(river) I lit the wood we gathered from the forest with the mans lighter , sitting down on the hard dirt floor , I looked over to were Becci was laying with Milly's head laying on her , I then looked over to the man with his son.

"So I didn't get your name , what is it?" I said looking at them both.

"Charlie and this here is Max and your name is Rachael , isn't it"He said giving of a slight chuckle. Laying my head on the dirt ground I looked up at the stars as they twinkled in the dark night sky.

"Yes, yes it is"...

Closing my eyes I listened as the sound of birds chirping and the whilstling of the leafs in the wind, it was almost beautiful.....

until the smell of rotten flesh and smoke rushed up my nose causing me to block it with my hand.
