MY FIRST DAY

I woke up to the sound of my brother juggling his football in the backyard.
"Well, he's up early," I mumbled.
I dragged myself out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and have a shower.

Once I was out, I put on my immaculate white shirt, my navy blue school skirt, which was just over my knees. I put on my burgundy tie which had the Ravenwood Secondary School logo and I carried my Hype school bag.

One last look at myself in the mirror, I checked my watch and went downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning mum, " I greeted.
"Good morning sweetheart, " she cooed as she planted a kiss on my forehead.

I sat down at the island and bit into my sandwich. Jimi came into the kitchen in his uniform and he looked rather dashing. I wasn't used to seeing my brother in uniform or any formal clothes at all.

He is such a chill guy that I don't think he even owns a proper shirt, besides the ones that came with his uniform set.
"Good morning Mum, " Jimi greeted as he sat down beside me at the island.
"Good morning, Jimi, " our mum replied.

Jimi fiddled with his dark, curly hair as he ate. My mum told us to hurry up because we only had 10 more minutes until it was time for us to go to school.

"Why were you up so early this morning?" I asked my brother.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"You woke me up this morning, " I told him.
" Couldn't sleep." He said as he got up from the table and went to wear his shoes.

After I finished washing up, I wore my black Vans and got in the car. I put my Airpods in my ears and listened to Burna boy's Collateral Damage while I observed the scenery.

When we got to school, my brother and I got out of the car and waved goodbye to our mum and made our way into the school. Jimi and I went our separate ways, I went over to my locker, punched in my code and opened my it.

While I was getting my books for my first three periods of the day. I heard someone scream my name from the other side of the corridor. I turned around to see a familiar face. She was a little bit taller than me, she had black, wavy shoulder-length hair, brown skin, and a beaming smile.

"Oluwakanyinsola Jacobs?" I asked.
"You remember!" she screamed as she rushed into my arms.
We hugged each other for about two minutes before we let go of each other.
"You didn't tell me that you went here, " I said.
"You didn't tell me that you were coming here" she pouted.
"Fair enough." I surrendered.
"What do you have first?" she asked me.
"Literature," I answered as I picked up my bag.
"Cool, I have Math now, "she told me, "so I'll see you later."

I walked to my Literature class and settled down at the back of the class. The teacher came in and told us to bring out our books and read chapter one of "To Kill a Mocking Bird" by Harper Lee.

The bell rang for the end of first period and the rest of the day was a blur, until the fifth period.
This time Kanyin and I had a class together, it was History. The teacher was explaining something about "The Great Depression" when Kanyin tapped me.

"What?" I whispered.
"Look who's giving you the eyes," she chuckled.

I turned around to see a dark-skinned boy, with beautiful curls, he had a fade, dark mysterious eyes, and dimples. I turned back around and gave Kanyin a look, she rolled her eyes at me and the bell rang for the end of the period.

On the way to lunch, Kanyin told me that his name was Abidemi Roy, and that he was one of the most popular guys in the school.

"So?" I asked still not getting it.
"Are you kidding me?" she queried.
" I mean he is hot, but I just don't see anything in him, " I stated.
"He was totally checking you out!" Kanyin exclaimed.
"Shh!" I told her, now worried that someone might have heard her.

After lunch, I gave Kanyin a hug and she walked home. My mum had texted me earlier in the day that I would stay after school because my brother had practice.

I strolled to the football pitch and sat down on the bleachers. I opened my backpack and brought out my Literature homework.
