THE UNEXPECTED

I woke up rather late the next morning. I was still thinking about the letter and whether I should just ignore it or not.

I found myself in my boring physics class and the teacher was going on and on about the limit of proportionality. A strange feeling consumed my body, it wasn't that tingling feeling but it still felt weird.

I got a bathroom pass and went to the bathroom. I rinsed my face and stared at myself in the mirror, my eyes changed colour. I was still observing them when they changed to a dark shade of violet.

An unsettling feeling overcame me, I fell to the floor, hugging my stomach, I dragged myself into one of the bathroom stalls. All of a sudden,  I couldn't feel myself. I became paralyzed and my breathing stopped, then I felt excruciating pain in my stomach. I blacked out.

.............................................................................

"Where is she?" I thought to myself.
"Hi, Jimi" Kanyin greeted.
"Oh, hi, it's good I bumped into you." I began "Have you seen Desirae anywhere?"
"No, I haven't."
"Where could she be?" I muttered under my breath.
"We only had first and second period together today" Kanyin informed me. "But I do remember seeing her go into the bathroom when I went to my locker this morning."
"Can you please help me go into the bathroom and check for her?"
"Sure."

A few moments later Kanyin came out of the bathroom looking rather pale and said that we need to call "999" immediately. With sweaty palms, I managed to dial the number and I passed the phone to Kanyin.

She went into the bathroom and made the call, I found this rather strange and at this point, I was getting nervous because I knew that whatever it was, it was serious.

Kanyin came out of the bathroom and told me what she saw. Tears started to run slowly down my cheeks, I couldn't figure out what had possibly happened in there. I called my mum and told her to meet us at the hospital, I could feel her panicking over the phone but I told her that when she comes down to the hospital, she would understand.

I watched as the emergency services carried my sister out of the school on a stretcher. She didn't deserve this, it didn't make sense, my sweet, innocent sister. Why did this happen to her?

I got into the back of the ambulance with my backpack and sat with my sister. I needed to distract myself, so I brought out my math homework and solved some problems.

Shortly after we got to the hospital, my mum barged in the room and was reduced to tears immediately she saw Desirae hooked up with tubes. She ran into my arms and we both cried together.

The doctor came into the room an hour later.
"Good evening, Mrs. Bell." He greeted.
"Good evening, Doctor." My mum replied.
"Concerning your daughter, Desirae, we really don't know what came about her reason for fainting this afternoon," he told my mum.
"What do you mean?" My mother started to get worried.
"Well, this is a rare case, I have never seen anything like this before. After all the tests we conducted, there was nothing wrong with her. All we know is that she is going to be fine."

I calmed down after that statement. I just wanted my sister to alright.
"Thank you, doctor."  My mum said.

We sat there for two more hours before my mum said that I needed to go home and sleep. I refused and told her that I could just call up one of my friends to help me with what I missed. I managed to convince her to let me stay.

When it was ten o'clock, she said she had to leave because she had work the next day. I ordered a large box of pizza with a drink for myself to hold me until tomorrow.

The sunlight hit my eyes through the blinds of the hospital room and I woke up to see a familiar pair of eyes staring right at me. It was Desirae. She was awake!

I gave her a peck on her cheek and rushed out the room to get the doctor. When he came in, he greeted her and then he checked her pulse and heartbeat.

He told me that she was fine and that she just needed rest. I held her hand and I called Mum to let her know that Desirae was awake.
