Edward's  memory of his young mother was limited, but what he did remember it would haunt him. Having being brought from Estonia by force at age two, his memory of his home country was foggy. He would remember his and his mother's day together, especially when he would work in the fields. Tiny tears would always swell up in his icy blue eyes.

Edward tried to shook off his mother's memory, to continue working when he saw Aras in the middle of the fields. Edward rushed over to him, hoping the slave master hadn't seen Aras yet. When he came close enough to see Aras's face, he saw that Aras had been crying.

"Why are you crying?" He asked as he came into hearing distance.

Aras didn't want to admit he was crying, or tell anyone else the horrors he had witness, Since he didn't want relive it.

" I'm not crying, "  he replied as he quickly wiped his eyes.

" I'll believe you, when you're not wiping away your tears,"  Edward joked.

" Well, why do you have tears in your eyes?" Aras asked back a little upset.

" It's none of your business."

"Why? You were crying too," Aras pointed out

" It's nothing."

" It has to be something," He persisted.

"I said it's nothing," Edward said as he pushed Aras and stormed off.

Aras stood there, his eyes filling up to the brim with tears. his tears ran down his cheeks as he sunk down to the soft snow. First my mother and now my big brother, why am I hated? he thought .

Many days and nights passed where Edward and Aras would not speak to each other. Aras would try to talk to Edward, but every time he'd walk towards him, Edward would simply walk the direction. Aras would no longer bother Edward in the middle of the night, even when he was extremely thirsty or when he really needed to go use the restroom.  He would just lay there hoping the morning light would come as he rested his eyes for a bit.

One day when Edward was climbing down from his bunk, he saw small yellow puddle form around Aras. Little Aras shivered  and curled up into a little ball. Edward felt sorry for him, so he put him in his bed. He covered with a his little tattered blanket, and headed out to begin work.

When Aras awoke, he noticed the room looked different. The ceiling seemed so much closer, he also looked over the side of the bed. He realized he was on Edward's bed. He wondered how he got there, as he slowly began to climb down.

" Good Morning, Aras," Edward said as he walked into the sleep quarters.

"Good morning. Um... Why was I in your bed?" Aras asked as he stepped onto the ground.

" I put you there, when you had a little accident, this morning," He replied

Aras's face turned bright red, he knew what a "little accident" was. He was also was certain that any of the other slaves that were still in the sleeping quarters also knew what it was too.

"Edward, I'm sorry for pestering you and making you upset," Aras finally apologized.

" No, i should say sorry, I overreacted," he replied back.

After that the two boys returned to to the fields, to continue to work. they worked long and hard trying to clear the snow off.  As they cleared the fields, the older male slaves would plow the hard cold ground, while the woman slaves would try to plant the seeds. while the slaves continued to work, the slave master snuck out the house, carrying a large trash bag. Aras knew what was in the bag, and his heart ached, because he couldn't do anything to save the slavemaster's wife.

As night neared, Aras knew the  slave master, would  torture him, because he had witnessed, everything. he went straight to bed, while the slaves began to party. With everyone in the sleep quarters he would be safe for the time being, but still would have to be cautious, for his slave master, can and would strike when his guard is low.

Aras was awaken the next morning, hitting the cold hard wooden floor. His bones shook and rattled. He looked up, and saw the slave master towering over him, with murder in his eyes.

"Why... Did you throw  me on the ground?" Aras asked as he tried to get up.

" It was one you who took my wife!" He yelled as he picked up Aras by his collar.

He held Aras up to the wall. He tried to wiggle himself free, but it was no use, the slave master had a tight grip around his little neck. All the other slaves where out working in the fields, so no one could see or hear him. It was getting harder  for Aras to breath. He vision was failing him as well. As he left his life slipping away from him, he just wished that he could have thanked everyone who had taken care of him. He closed his eyes a he felt what could be his last breath leave him.

Aras regain consciousness around twilight. He was surrounded by many familiar faces, including Edward. The breathed a breath of relief when Aras finally sat up.

" What happened?" Aras asked.

" We found the slave master tring  to choke you," one of the teen aged slaves replied.

Aras touched his neck, it hurt like crazy and was bright red.

" You're half dead," Edward added.

" Its not save for him to stay here any more," A female slave interrupted.

"How are we going to get him out here?"  the oldest slave asked concerned.

The slaves began brainstorming hair brain schemes to get little Aras out of there, when the slave master's children walked in. The slaves scurried and hid from the children.

" We can Help him escape," Issac said.

" But how? The slave master will surely find him."

"We can take him to the edge of Russia, and he can make his way to Poland through Belarus."

"That's a good plan, but can we send a child on a harsh cruel journey?" a female slave asked.

"I can go," Edward interrupted.

" But you're also a child."

" Yes, but this may be the only chance at freedom I'll ever get," he replied  as tears began to fill his eyes.

Edward wad a strong child, but with some weaknesses, especially for his beloved country of Estonia. He remembered the last day he spent in his country and the horrors he experienced  on that fateful day. Yet he would give anything to return there, to the country he was  born in.

" Okay you and Aras will escape tonight," the elder approved.

Once the Russian landscape was completely covered in night, Isaac and Regina snuck out of their beautiful house and headed to the slaves' sleeping quarters. They entered a loud bright room, full of older slaves drinking and singing.Regina and Isaac made their way to the back of the room where Aras and Edward were standing.

"Are you guys ready?" Isaac asked.

" Yes."

The walked out of the noise lively room, past the snow covered fields. They came to the edge of Russia and Belarus quiet quickly. The trees near the  border  were covered with tiny ice crystal that made the trees sparkle as the light from the nearby village reflected off the crystals. The children stood there in awe. After a moment of admiring nature's beauty

After saying their last farewells, Regina  took Aras's hand in hers.

" Be careful and I hope to see you again," Regina whispered as she left a small snowflake clip in Aras's palm.
