Another day, another match. I've been doing this for almost a year now, and I don't know when I plan of stopping, or if I even planed on it. I've gotten tons of amazing lab results, so why would I ever want to stop?

I am pulled from my train of thought as the team compositions are displayed and we get ready to jump. I looked at the board hoping to see an enjoyable legend to be paired with. I find myself and look. My team consisted of myself, Pathfinder, and Wattson. I smiled to myself. This was going to be a good match.

I hear lifeline groan.

"Looks like you've got a great build to work with." She chuckles. "Look what I'm dealing with.

I look to her team and see that she has been paired with Mirage and Bloodhound. God, they were nearly inseparable. Both Ajay and I knew they would act extremely lovey all match and be sickeningly sweet. They were good together, I will admit that, but not everyone benefited when they prioritized each other over anything else and argued over which was to take the level three armor.

I gave her a look of pity. I walk over to Wattson and nod to her, offering a smile. She happily waves back. We had become friends recently and I actually enjoyed being around her. We had many like-minded conversations.

"Hello, Doctor Caustic!" She says. I stand by her. She had a wonderful smile. It was always bright and full of love.

"Hello Natalie. How are you today?" I respond. She gave an even bigger smile and seemed overjoyed. She always loved when I talked to her. It made me happy to see her so happy, although I don't know why it did. I never seemed to care about many others.

Pathfinder made his way over to us as Natalie and I carried a light conversation. He pinged central city and said we should drop there. I was unsure, but eventually agreed. Perhapse we could have a good game if we landed there.

"I suggest we land together. There is a better chance of surviving." I say. Natalie nods and smiles as me as pathfinder gives me a thumbs up. We land towards the middle of capitol in a small building. I throw down a trap behind me as I pick up a Peacekeeper and an RE-45.

Wattson, who landed in the building directly beside mine, pinged out a few enemies. I acknowledged her pings and rushed over, seeing she had already made her way out of the building and towards me.

"Full squad. I believe its Makoa." She says quickly. I nod to her.

"Lets get ins-" I start, but I get cut off by a loud cracking noise and the world shaking. As I struggle to keep my balance, I see a crack forming in the earth, directly between the two buildings. The earth starts to split and erode into itself.

Instinctivly, I grab Natalie's arm and pull her away as I get further away from the trench forming before us. With a loud crack, the earth splits in two and reveals the magma beneath, buildings collapsing all around.

I notice the building just to our left was collapsing, sending rubble flying down. In a moment of panic, I pull Natalie close and crouch down, covering her the best I could.

Large chunks of concrete, metal and glass shards fall around us. I feel myself get hit by small chunks of rubble as they fall, bruising my back and glass cutting me as I stood over Natalie, making sure she didn't get hurt.

As the chunks stopped falling, I get up and pull Natalie further away from everything. She trips and yells, and I look back to see her leg covered by a large chunk of concrete. I, being horified, go back to her and uncover her leg, again attempting to protect her. I turn back and watch the entire building slip into the magma, and becoming protective again, I hug her close, keeping my sore and bloodied back to the destruction.

As the dust settles, we both look over the destruction in horror and fascination.

"Are you okay?" I ask her, looking over her gently. She shakes her head and motions to her leg. Her leg was bent in an odd direction. And it looked like there was a joint where there deffinatly was not one.

"Oh dear, that's broken. That is very broken." I say quietly. quietly hear her whimper quietly. As I tend to her, she has a blush spread across her face. My mind then begins to process all that I had just done. I had really done that, hadn't I? I blush slightly and try to hide it. I didn't mean nor have the desire to do that, did I?

"What about you, you big idiot. You took the front of all that-" She asks as she looks me over, trying her best not to hurt me. I wince as she touches my back gently.

"Oh god, you're very hurt!" She exclaims. I roll my eyes. She was so selfless.

"I'm okay Natalie. I'll be fine." I say bluntly. I didn't honestly care that I was hurt.

"But you're bleeding Doctor Caustic-" She says with a sad face. We are interrupted by the voice of the announcer.

"Evacuate, get to the nearest respawn beacon, this is not a drill."

I sigh and look at my map. We were on the opposite side of the ravine that we needed to be on, and I had no idea where Pathfinder was. Perhapse he was already on his way to a respawn beacon.

Looking around, I see nobody else arround, so I decide to head to the beacon in Epicenter.

"I'm going to pick you up, okay? You cannot walk on that. There is no possible way." I say to her. She nods slightly. I pick her up slowly in the bridal style and try my best not to hurt myself or her. She winces, but she doesn't yelp in pain.

I begin to walk to the respawn beacon, trying my best not to hurt her. Her leg was bleeding and it didn't look good. I didn't want to do anything to make it worse.

As we got closer, I fewbegin to see a few other legends, Lifeline, Bloodhound and Mirage being among them. Lifeline makes her way over to me and gives me a look of concern.

"What the hell happened?" She asks.

"A big ravine opened up in the middle of capitol." I say simply.

"I mean with her you dipshit-" She scoffs and looks at Wattson with a smile.

"Hello, Ajay." She says brightly as if she hasn't just hadn't badly broken her leg. Ajay chuckles.

"Hey. You alright?" She asks. Natalie nods.

"My leg hurts. Dr. Caustic protected me from everything else though." She states. I feel a blush creep back on my cheeks. Ajay glances at me and then back to Natalie.

"Didn't think you were the 'savior' type Caustic." She says with humor. I scoff.

"I was doing a favor for a friend. I didn't want her dead." I say as I blushed more. Ajay chuckles.

"Whatever you say." She says as she walks away. We finally reach the respawn becon, which had an evac ship already there.

We got on the ship and I sat down, never letting go of Natalie. People gave me odd looks so I sat her beside me. I don't understand why I felt like this, I never had before. After all, I was only doing a favor, right? So why did so feel like that?

I feel my mind slowly go blank as the mind tethering wore off. As I slowly passes out, the last think I remember thinking of was how silly it was to make us evacuate when we would only be untethered soon after. They just didn't want to do as much work. Lazy assholes.
