It's about seven when I finally wake up. I overslept. First day of school, the dreaded Monday, and yet I am exicted. New town, new me. Isn't that the saying? Anyways, today, I may be able to find a friend who is as strange as I am.
I jump out of bed and grab my phone, then I put my music on shuffle. The first song is upbeat, one of the danciest I have. I've got to get ready in the next twenty minutes, so I blast the Korean pop music and shuffle my way across the room to my dresser. Hello, Mr. Top Drawer, my favorite striped sweater please! And blue jeans to match!
I continue dancing as I gel my brunette hair and clip on my lucky shark tooth necklace. I'll need my luck since I don't want to be remembered as "The Fruitiest Pop on the Block" in this town. Why the hell did those other assholes care so much about my taste in books and music? Hem hem, I can read The Notebook and listen to Girls Generation and still be straight as a stick.
After slinging my bookbag over my shoulder I head downstairs. Mom was sitting at the black island, drinking coffee and watching the toaster. Pop! the toast comes out.
"Hey, Mom."
"'Morning. Want toast?"
"Sure! Thanks." I sit next to her and she hands me a piece of toast. I eat it without butter. Kind of in a hurry, here. Mom checks her watch, "Shit, you should probably get going. Good luck today. Don't screw up." She gives me a little smile and I get up and run to the door.
"Love you!"
"I love you, too."
The bus stop is located at the stop sign at the end of the street so I run. The bus is coming to a stop as soon as I arive.
Damn. There aren't any seats, I say in my head. A blonde girl sticks her hand in the air and waves me over. She looks like the average mean-girl type. Tall. Blonde. Pink. Beautiful. The same kind of girl who used to throw their drinks at me in the cafeteria. I feel alienated, (what even am I doing here right now) as I sit down next to her. She smiles.
"I'm Kat. Newbie, I see?"
I smile back and nod. Seems innocent enough.
"And your name is....?" She's really trying to talk to me. I should be taking notes. How does this "Kat" character even manage this thing?
"I'm Taylor," say something cool, Jay, say somehting cool, "I like that song, too."
"What?"
Oh.... she wasn't even listening to music.
"What do you mean?" I start choking. She laughs. What's wrong with me, man?
We stay silent the rest of the bus ride.
I should've just let her keep talking.
That way, I could take notes.
