"I wish Hogwarts was real."

"What do you mean, my Love?"

"Well, as wonderful as your stories are, Daddy, I just don't think a place amazing as that could be real."

MIRANDA BLACK WAS YOUNG

MIRANDA BLACK WAS YOUNG. She was innocent. In that respect, she was no different from her parents. Sirius Black and Marlene McKinnon were young; they were innocent. But they got a chance at life. She didn't. That was truly where their differences lied.

She was the daughter of a Marauder. Nearly two years younger than Harry. A boy she should have met early, but instead met too late. While he struggled with an abusive Aunt and Uncle, and no one to love, she had a loving father, but lived in a terrible place.

The world knew of her father and mother. They were known as traitors and murderers. But no one seemed to know her; though not because of their ignorance. Merely because she never existed to the outside world.

She was born in Azkaban. The place was cold. It was dirty. It was terrifying. Most occupants went mad or died within their first couple weeks.

But the girl who knew nothing else survived.

Her father kept her strong. He told her stories, and protected her from the Dementors. He reminded her of their innocence, though she could never quite grasp what the word meant, or why it was important.

All she knew, was that they had to kill the rat. If they killed the rat, they'd be free.

If they killed the rat, they'd be free
