I wasn't use to eating lunch with anybody. Especially not with Dick Grayson. But..it happened. I had got my lunch, was heading for an empty seat in the cafeteria, but Dick had called me over to sit with his friends.

One of them I recognized was Barbara Gordon from my Chemistry class. She seemed nice, though she always catched an attitude when this one girl is near. Her name is Betty. And apparently, she had taken her boyfriend before. Yep, crazy drama if you ask me.

"So, AJ, you never did tell me if you're name was a nickname or your real name." Dick said as I looked at him and then at Barbara and his other friend, Corey.

"Well, my real name is Alexandra Jacklyn Briars. But my Mom always calls me by AJ." I explained as I gave a small smile.

"Same here. My real name is Richard, but everybody calls me Dick."

"And even though most people call me by my real name, I think I like it when my friends call me Babs." Barbara said before smiling at Dick and I.

"Lucky you." I mumbled a bit loudly. But both Dick and Barbara heard it and furrowed their eyebrows.

"What's that suppose to mean?"

"Well, it's nothing against you guys. It's just..I never had that group, you know? That group of people like me, friends I can rely on, friends I can share my problems. I was always that antisocial teenager in a Catholic school. Nobody talked to me because they thought I was weird." I admitted as I looked down at my food.

"Well, we don't think you're weird." Dick assured.

"And even if we did, you'd be in the group with us because we may be THE most weirdest group ever." Corey said as I smiled.

"Thanks, guys. That's really-"

Alexandra..

I stopped mid sentence as my smile slowly faded. I looked past Barbara and saw a man dressed almost like one of those Confederate soldiers and he had aimed his weapon at us.

"Guys. Get down!" I shouted as I saw the gun go off and I shield myself with my arms. I didn't feel anything though. However, when I looked back, I saw that part of the dozens of tables in the cafeteria had been blown away and there were people backing away from me in fear.

"I saved you guys! I'm not going hurt you!" I tried to reason, but nobody would listen.

"AJ?" I looked at Dick and the others and their eyes were wide in shock as well. "What-?"

"No, no! There was a man, he tried to kill us. He was right over..he was..." I looked around but didn't see him lying anywhere. Not even a ounce of blood from a injury or something. He was gone, as if..he was never there.

I shook my head before I ran out of the cafeteria, not daring to look back at the faces of the people who were terrified of me. Not even to look at Dick or Babs or Corey. I just ran out and into a bathroom stall.

I couldn't stop shaking. I looked at my hands and saw that they were glowing a bright red and pink. What was going on with me? Was I a freak? Am I cursed? I didn't know what to think. I should have been jumping off the walls because now I had powers. But right now, I had to understand what happened.

There was a man.

It wasn't my imagination. It was real. He was standing with a gun pointed towards Barbara's head and mine as well. There was no way that I could have imagined that.

Great, looks like me and my mom will have to move again.

"No, you won't." I heard as I furrowed my eyebrows. "Who's there?"

"Who do you think?" I opened up the stall door to see Dick, Babs, and Corey standing outside the stall.

"Eww..no boys allowed." I joked dryly as we all shared a small laugh. "But, still, what are you guys doing in here? Thought you guys thought of me as a freak."

"Like I said before, we're the weirdest group ever." Corey said with a bright smile.

"Exactly. And like we also said, even if something was wrong with you, it won't change how we feel." Babs said before looked at my feet and smiled.

"You know, even though we just met, I am so glad you guys are my friends. Nobody would have ever done anything like this for me."

"Well, now you have three awesome best friends and we won't let anything happen to you. OK?" Dick said before he threw his arm around my shoulders.

"Thanks, guys." I sighed before I looked towards the bathroom door. "Well, guess I better walk out these doors while there's nobody in the halls right now."

"Don't worry. We've got your back." Babs assured as I nodded. Before I knew it, I was back in the halls. I felt a sense of relief at first, but it was when the bell rang did I grow cold.
