The Queen of the Underworld

Chapter 6

I watched as Kei and Rio trained and helped some men with their techniques. Mostly, I stood and watched to make sure no one was getting hurt or that the techniques were correct. Occasionally, I'd have to help someone with the correct positioning and landing. I didn't have to talk much since it's always easier to show the person first, then guide their body in the way and direction that offers the most power. After about an hour, I got nervous for Rio's dad, and wondered why Kenny was here. 

"Akira," Kei scared me. "You're spacing again, what's wrong?" I looked back in the direction where Mr.Crawford's office was. "Yeah, I wonder what could be so important that they had to come here." He nudged me, making me look up at him. "You wanna go check on them?" I nodded once, then took off. When I made it to the office, I knocked softly and then entered. I was met with laughter and smiles from the men, including Mr.Crawford. 

"What's wrong, Akira?" Kenny said, slightly concerned. 

"She's checking on me," Mr.Crawford said with a shake of his head.

"Sorry," I mumbled, gripping the bottom of my long sleeve. 

"Don't be, I appreciate it. We're actually finishing up." I nodded at Mr.Crawford. "This gentleman said he'd appreciate it if he could speak to you alone, so you can use my office." I watched as everyone filtered out, except Kenny and I. 

"What's wrong?" He motioned for me to come inside and shut the door, so I did. "Did something happen to Chance?"

"Oh, no. We were instructed to come here and make sure we have access to cameras because of Ronan and Kieran. We know they're your friends, so Bossman wanted to make sure that all parties that are involved with you and Chance are safe." I tilted my head in confusion. "After what happened yesterday, Bossman wanted to make sure you were all safe, and that nothing was out of order. With us being involved with you and being in your life, it's surely going to attract attention, good and bad. It's strictly precautionary." 

"Why did you just say that earlier?" He shook his head at me and laughed.

"Because in my line of work, secrecy is important. So is being cautious and observant. Preparing for a worst-case scenario is always the most efficient way to ensure safety. Considering Bossman is interested in you, it's important that you and whoever you hold close, are taken care of." He nodded once at me.

"So, I have to deal with him more often?" Kenny nodded. "But he's not my type, and I have no romantic feelings for him. He's more of a nuisance." Kenny's face went emotionless for a moment.

"He's still my boss, Akira. I get that you might not like him, but you're not being given a choice. I'm sorry that he's a pain to deal with and that you might not like him, but we both know he's not a nuisance to you like you say." He rose a brow to me, making me blush.
