With an hour until one of the biggest nights of their lives, Cole watched desperately as Annabelle stepped into her bedroom. His breath caught in his throat as he took her appearance in. Her mossy-green eyes trailed over him nervously, her fingers twitching nervously in front of her. She looked uncomfortable but Cole didn't care.
"You look amazing," He gasped out, his eyes not moving from his best-friend.
It was true. Annabelle's light-brown, almost blonde, hair was pulled back into a flowery bun, some gems pinned into her hair. There were loose strands out of the bun to frame her glowing face. The silk dress stopped at her knees, sequins and glitter adorned the hem of the dress; it was puffed out from the underlayers. The waist was where the dress became tighter. The neckline of the dress was also decorated with silver sequins, much like the hem. A pattern of silver was sprinkled across the tighter bodice and it was almost sleeveless apart from the silk material draped over her upperarms.
"You really think so?" Annabelle brushed down the skirt of the dress before looking up at Cole. She didn't believe him, that was obvious.
Cole nodded in reply. "I'm being serious, Anna," He said, standing up, being careful not to crease his suit. "Charlie's gonna freak out when he sees you."
Annabelle frowned when he said this. "Isn't that bad?" She questioned, waiting anxiously for Cole's reply.
"No," He responded. "It's not bad. What I meant was that Charlie's not going to believe his eyes when he sees you. Not that you don't usually look nice, just you look especially stunning now."
"You're not just saying that?" Annabelle inquired, raising her eyebrows
Cole shook his head in protest. "God no," He gave her a sheepish grin before continuing. "But could you please tie this tie for me?"
He motioned to the skinny black tie that was dangling limply around his neck. Annabelle laughed a little, lifting her arms to grab the ends of the tie as she nodded. "You need to learn how to do this," She stated, amusement lacing her tone. "You're not going to have me to tie it for you all the time."
Cole chuckled a little. "Who says I'm not?" He said, to which Annabelle gasped and slapped his arm a little before laughing along."Are you ready?" Cole asked as they sat in Annabelle's living room. Annabelle's Grandpa had gotten the camera out for when Charlie knocked on the door. Cole's hand was in Annabelle's, trying to calm her down as her nerves were getting to her. But if her nervousness wasn't already enough, the sound of someone knocking on the door echoed through the house. Annabelle's breath hitched in her throat.
Brian stood up, the camera ascending with him. He made his way toward the front door. Annabelle and Cole both heard the door click open and Charlie's voice floated into Annabelle's ear. It was reassuring, yet nerve-racking. Slowly, the two of them stood up and turned to see Charlie in the doorway.
Charlie gave Cole a smile before his gaze fell on Annabelle. His eyes widened as he took her in. He gulped down the lump that had formed in his throat and locked eyes with the dark-green orbs he adored. "You look incredible!" Charlie exclaimed, running a hand through his previously-styled hair.
Annabelle gave him a soft smile, however before she could say anything, Brian cut in. "Pictures!" He cried, wiggling the camera in his hands. He almost dropped it but caught it in time, catching Annabelle's eye and chuckling a little.
The three of them stood in front of the fireplace. Charlie's hand was around Annabelle's waist, comforting both him and her. Cole was stood smiling with his hands in his pockets. Brian smiled at all of them and lifted the camera to his eye before snapping a shot.
Annabelle felt Charlie's lips brush her ear and his hot breath on the skin of her neck. His hands were encircled around her waist and Annabelle's cheek was resting against his chest. They were swaying back and forth on the dark dance-floor to one of the 'coupley' songs that was being played. "You look so, so beautiful right now," Charlie whispered. "Just when I thought you couldn't get anymore angelic."
She felt warmth searing through her cheeks. "Don't, Charlie," She warned quietly. Responding to compliments was not one of Annabelle's strong points and Charlie knew that. He still continued to splash one in whenever he could.
"Why shouldn't I tell my girlfriend she's beautiful?" Charlie defended, tightening his hold of her smaller body. He was so protectivre of her as she was like a porcelain doll, ready to break at any second. "Because I'm not lying. You're the most amazing person Annabelle."
This is the start of something beautiful.
"You're the one whose done so much for me," Annabelle admitted. "You've made me find who I am."
This is the start of something new.
"No, Annabelle," Charlie protested softly. "You've made me realise that there is more to life than just wanting things. You've made me realise that the smaller things mean a lot.
You are the one who'd make me lose it all.
"You've helped me break down my walls, Charlie," Annabelle murmured. "I'm so thankful for it."
You are the start of something new.
Charlie's hand brushed Annabelle's smooth cheek and he gazed down at her lovingly. His blue eyes captivating Annabelle with just one awe-filled look. "I love you, Annabelle Smith," He whispered against her lips, his own grazing the surface of hers. Annabelle smiled as her lips molded into Charlie's. She loved the way they fit together effortlessly.
Annabelle pulled back for a moment, her eyes meeting Charlie's again. "I love you too."______________________________________________________________
