Rich's POV
He pulled the book out from under his bed, the moleskin worn and soft. His mother had been very artistic, and had given this to him before leaving. His mom had loved Rich so much, but his dad got full custody of him and Devin because he was financially stable. She had left town the very next day, and Rich hadn't seen her for five years. His dad saw him as a burden, but he adored Devin. Perfect, athletic, popular, handsome, STRAIGHT Devin.

Rich moved some papers off his incredibly messy desk, making space for himself. Rich wasn't great at art, finding music to be much more of his "thing" in the fine arts realm. He had always enjoyed it before she left, as it relaxed him, almost like he was singing or playing his guitar or cello but with paper and pencil.

He was genuinely curious to see what was inside, as he had never opened the book. As he suspected, the inside of the cover and the first page had notes from his mom scrawled in her calligraphic handwriting.

To my sweet pea;
I cannot tell you how hard it is to leave you with that man you must call your father, but I have no choice. I love you with everything I am, and I love Devin as if he was my own. There are so many things I wish I could tell you about your father, what he is. But you are just a child, and you are already going to be heart broken by my absence. Since I know you won't open this until much, much later, I have encased a key in the evelope on the back cover that fits a small silver box in the attic that contains a letter that explains everything, and has a list of phone numbers that can help you find me. I love you so much, and know that I am always with you in spirit no matter what.
Mom

Rich completly forgot about every single bit of homework he had. This was so much more important. His MOM had left him a way to find her for FIVE WHOLE FUCKING YEARS and he had shoved it under his bed! He flipped throught the pages until he found, as promised, a small envelope with what felt like a key.

His mom had been a creative, brilliant, beautiful woman, and Rich gave credit to her for all of his good qualities. His dad had given him the ability to caculate, manipulate and deduce, but he had rejected the way his dad wanted him to live, trying to be like his mother as much as he could. He used them positively, trying to help the world around him and always stay optimistic and happy even when life was being a bitch.

He carefully tore open the envelope, and a small, dull, silver, skeleton style key slipped out. He pocketed it, not quite ready to head up to the attic. He took a deep, shaky breath, and tried to regain control of his shaky body. He was so filled with nerves that both his hands were shaking, thought the left was shaking significantly less than the right. He finally manages to minimize the shaking, and grabbed his phone.

He pulled up Jake's contact, his thumb hovering over the call button. He suddenly remembered that had no idea when Jake would get out of practice. He pulled up messenger and sent him a quick text.

Me: Please come over asap, it's of utmost importance.

Jake's POV
His rehearsal had ended right at 10, which was a rare occurrence. He threw his stuff into his car, plunking down into his seat afterwards. He sighed and pulled out his phone, quickly seeing the text from Rich.

Cutie: Please come over asap, it's of utmost importance.

He had sent it over and hour ago, and Jake was cursing himself. "C-c-c-cmon, C-c-c-cmon, go go!" He snapped, irritated at the odd amount of traffic for a Tuesday night at 10 pm. He sent a short text to Rich so he didnt surprise him.

Me: I'll be there soon.

He threw his phone on the passenger seat, and pressed on the gas. He went through several back alleys and parking lotsto avoid traffic, arriving in just under 10 minutes. He rushed to the door, knocking loudly. A few seconds later a very flustered Rich appeared in the doorway, and threw his arms around him.
