still in a state of shock at the scenario in front of me I gulp and grab the handle of the car door, pulling it ever so slightly until I hear a click. the silence appears to be thick, clearly noticeable as you could probably cut it with a sharp butcher knife.

steadily I place one foot onto the concrete of the ground, the other following seconds after. stephen does the same and walks over to me, whilst all three boys have their eyes glued onto us. jay has his arms crossed and a stern look evident on his face whilst hosuh and dan both have a facial expression of uncertainty.

"where have you two been?" hosuh tries to shout but it comes out as barely a whisper. nervously I glance at the floor before being my gaze back up to stephen and then hosuh "I was with stephen... at his house". hosuh's face twists into frustration before shouting quietly "and you- you couldn't call me to tell me you were okay? I was worried sick... we were worried" his voice cracks half way through as he gestures to the other boys, dan nods.

"I'm sorry" I mumble. stephen gently places an arm around my waist, giving me a reassuring squeeze, replicating a side hug. this did not make jay happy as his facial expression drastically changes to that of pure hatred or so it seems. "what's that on your leg?" jay points out the now yellowy-brown mark "I swear to god stephen if you did that I will kill you" "what no it wasn't him. it was an accide-" my sentence was cut off by jay grabbing me from stephen and pulling me to his side, firmly holding my hand "tch accident". I try to squirm out of his grip but it was just a waste of time as it's near enough impossible.

"you've got it all wrong, he fell and then I fell" I try to explain but they're taking none of it in, it's just going into one ear and out of the other. "she's telling the truth. look I'm sorry I should've brought her home but you guys treating her like a child is humiliating for her, she's old enough to make her own decisions" stephen informs the guys as they all look at me as I nod hesitantly in agreement.

"stephen isn't a bad guy I promise you he's so so sweet and I'm sorry I didn't come home when I was supposed to" my gaze returns back to the floor. "is there something going on here between you two? because it sure seems like it" jay questions as I violently shake my head flustered "are you sure because that kiss seemed pretty real to me". "leave her alone there's nothing going on. we're just friends" stephen states plainly which creates a heavy feeling in my chest... just friends... that's all we are, obviously.

finally I manage to free my hand and run inside and up to my room, face red and blotchy from the salty tears that are now cascading down my cheeks like a waterfall.

just friends.
