Carter is a 14 year old boy in his second week of eighth grade.
He honestly doesn't know how he made it through seventh grade with the grades he had.
In science he had a C, math a D, Social Studies a B, and English an A. English was the only thing he was good at. Ever.
People would always point out these flaws of Carter and make it worse for him to get better at the subjects.
You see Carter was smart and had a lot of knowledge until he let his grade slip once and people made him seem dumb. Which he believed and let it control his grades.
"Carter! You get down here this instant, young man!", said Carters mom from the kitchen downstairs.
Carter got up and hurried out of his room so he didn't make his mom angrier.
"Yes momma? What seems to be the problem?", Carter says in a nervous low tone.
Carters moms reply was with anger while looking at her computer.
"These grades of yours, they are absolutely terrible! You getting in trouble with a teacher?! I didn't raise a child with such ignorance!"
Those words stung at Carters heart, but he thought he could care less about it.
"Actually mom you did raise a child with such ignorance. You know ignorance is bliss if you don't care! And guess what ma, I don't care! Ignorance is bliss", Carter commented which confidence.
"Go to your room and don't come out until you think of a better statement then that!" Carters mom spat out. With that, Carter walked up the stairs with a smile on his face to his room. Carter was more confident then ever, he finally stood up for being himself. Or for what people made him seem like himself. With a sigh Carter opens his window and gets on the roof. The evening sky is beautiful, with the clouds and the sun close to setting. "How could someone not love a scenery like that?", Carter said to himself laying down on the roof.A few hours have passed, which Carter thought was only minutes. He then opened his eyes to see a pure black night sky. He sighed and got back into his room and to sleep. He knew how dumb he was being by going to sleep when he actually should be trying for school. But again he didn't care, ever. That's what he thought, he thought he didn't care.
Carter then wakes up at 5:00 am and showers to get himself more awake. Does it work? No. It's now 6:30 am and Carter is rushing to the bus, actually caring about something for once.
"New boy, in English class? This is going to be a rough year", Carter thought to himself.
"Everyone we have a new student today! Would you like to introduce yourself to the class sir?"
"Hey my names Simon", the new kid says shyly out to the class. The classes response is just a bunch of hellos back. But there was something about Simon that Carter just couldn't point out clearly.
What was it about this boy?
