Chapter II: My New Mission

I was expecting fireballs, monsters and other beasties landing from the sky. Instead, we got a battalion on fighter jets, missles and helicopters.

"Everyone, stay calm. The Border Guards can handle this," Nicholas said, his voice loud enough to echo through the café. Clearly, no one was in a state to be "calm." The crowd that mocked me earlier started panicking. By panic, I meant the whole people-tumbling-over-chairs-and-other-stuff-to-get-out-of-the-café panic. Only me, Skye, a few students, Guardians and the Pri-Guardians were left in the café a few seconds later.

"In my Kingdom, I could've fed those people to the Gigasnakes," Frey said. "They lack respect, Nicholas."

Nicholas only sighed. He sat down and proceeded to drink his earlier-ordered coffee. He seemed so calm with the explosions, jets and heli's that I couldn't help but feel calm myself. A jet zoomed past the café, almost touching the ground. The jet flew by harmlessly since the streets here in the city of Sorania are about four lanes wide. I wondered what they could be seeing. An alien mothership? A futuristic world-conquering fleet? One could only imagine, I guess.

"I kinda want to go outside, but I'm scared of getting grazed by a metallic plane travelling in bullet-speed," Skye said. "I hope Sophia's okay, though."

That got me worried too. Felix is out there, probably with Kyon. I'm not just worried since if he dies I die. I'm actually worried for him.

"I guess we'll be heading towards Korea, then?" A Guardian asked. He looked middle-aged. He wore one of the Guardian uniforms and had a storm yellow badge on his chest - a Nova Guardian.

"Good thinking," Nicholas said. He pulled out--get this--a smart phone, dialed a number and put it right next to his ear. As he waited for a pick up, he stared at me and Skye. "What? Can't we be tech-savvy as you young ones?"

"Well..." Skye got an uneasy look on her face. "I'm not really sure if a cellphone is suitable for you guys. I mean, I don't even have a cellphone myself."

"Pah," Rafael snorted. "I own one. I believe it's nice how humans made this intrepid device. I love them. I can watch on...what is it called? Khael, what is that website you always go to so you can listen to your annoying music?"

"YouTube?"

Rafael snapped his finger. "Ah yes. YouTube. A fine name. You and Tube. I watch lots of things on it like funny cat videos and such. But what in heavens does Youtube mean? Eh. Nevermind. I also love playing this intrepid game called Infinite Dash. Very entertaining."

"What's a phone?" Penelope asked her older sister, Frey.

"It is better that you don't find out," Frey answered.

"Ah, hello! Yes, hello!" Nicholas shouted, making me and Skye jump and hit our knees on the table. My empty cup toppled over. "Jimmy! Can you get us near Korea?! Yes, very much so! Thank you, Jimmy! A- eh what? Too loud? Nonsense! Well, goodbye!" Nicholas dropped the call. He looked proud of himself, looking at each one of us. Frey and Penelope were covering their ears. Khael, Rafael and Alexis, however, had dropped to the floor.

"For goodness sake, brother," Alexis said, standing up. "You could at least talk a little less loud."

Nicholas just smiled and shrugged. "I still need to get a little used to this."

A powerful tremor erupted, accompanied with an explosion. The tables shook and some cups tilted. Aside from the Pri-Guardians, everyone in the café grew silent, waiting for something else to happen.
