Half Light - New Amsterdam

Chapter 1

Maddison Carter felt like no matter what happens in her life that she would always be alone 3 weeks ago she lost her mother to lung cancer and her father couldn't handle the pain so he spent most days shutting off the pain by drinking from morning to night which made him aggressive which wasn't like him which made her feel like her father was no longer there anymore.

When her mother first got the information that she had cancer she decided to tell her daughter the truth that she was adopted from the day she was born because her parents were teenagers and weren't able to look after her Maddison believed this was a trick by her mother to get her to leave so that she wouldn't see the sickness and weakness of the cancer and how it would effect her but she wasn't going to leave that easily.

After this she looked up the information and it was true what she was told she managed to grave her parents her mother had died at the 36 alone her parents had thrown her out after finding out she was pregnant unfortunately she couldn't find anything on her father after her mother died she decided to track down her biological father.

She had managed to track down her biological aunt after months of researching she found her in New York and today was the day that she would meet her that morning she got up after setting her alarm for 6:30am the previous day as she had a lot to pack into one day when she woke from her warm bed that morning she looked around her trying to wake herself up so that she wouldn't fall back to sleep before putting on her slippers and dressing gown and doing her morning schedule.

She brushed her teeth and headed down stairs before juggling two different jobs at once she began to make her breakfast of eggs on toast as this meal would give her enough energetic that she would require for the rest of the morning. Before making lunch and breakfast for her dad for the next week as if she didn't that he wouldn't eat.

She wasn't going to be one of those kids who find out there adopted and then just leave there adoptive parents and not care for them anymore even though they had raised the kid like there own and love them too. After sorting out her father she headed up stairs before getting dressed into the outfit she had laid out on her chair beside her bed this outfit included a multi coloured checkered shirt and black jeans and her red converse before walking over to her black mirror that was hung on the door.

She looked at herself for a while before placing her hair into a messy ponytail and just staring at her reflection hoping that she looked like one of her parents maybe her mother she knew that she would never find out because she had passed away after a while she knew that she had to say goodbye for a while so she turned grabbing two bags from the back of her worn down wardrobe and began to put various items into them.

This included things she would need her medical certificate to show that she had been to medical school her mom was so proud the day she graduated she was the worlds youngest resident and it made her mom so happy. She also needed her passport, clothes and any other essentials before placing her grey rucksack on her back before grabbing the hold-all from her bed but as she was about to step out of the door she stopped with a feeling of hesitation.
