"Bakugo has always been the best or is he?"

Katsuki Bakugo is the best.

Being a prodigy blessed with magic, a strong one at that, he is admired by many. The world of magic has been kept as a secret for the past decades but it started affecting the society to a higher degree resulting to the government as well as the greatest wizards and witches finally deciding to let the world know that magic exists and is slowly engulfing the two worlds into becoming one.

A lot had speculated that this is possible because everyone almost had shared the same genetic bloodline at some point at least from their older generations making the concept of having magical blood more distributed and spread out in the future to manifest which is exactly what their society is now experiencing.

The possibility that children who are born from two non-magical parents or aren't even born with magic in the first place could still be able to manifest magic at a late age also spread like wildfire.

This phenomena resulted to this people being called "late bloomers."

Katsuki Bakugo is one of them.

When he first saw tiny explosions coming from his hands. He almost cried.

Almost.

Don't blame him. He's just a 10 year old kid who doesn't know anything about magic suddenly having one.

Not like he will admit that he was scared. He was confused and surprised - there's a big difference.

His parents took him to a wizard doctor specialized for children suddenly manifesting their own magic the next day, that's when Bakugo learned he's different from the rest. He was fidgeting in his feet as Mitsuki talks to the lady in the reception desk while Masaru pats him gently in the head as a means of silently comforting him, sensing the child's distress and internal turmoil.

"He's a late bloomer. Magic is already affecting people to a greater degree nowadays and even making a large population of humanity to suddenly manifest a specialized magic that are unique and exclusive to them. This doesn't only affect the user genetically but also psychologically and even sometimes physically." The doctor then pointed to a diagram of a brain which he noticed is labelled as his "I was able to detect that your son is a late bloomer by seeing that he has this two small area in the right part of his brain. The first one is the section that lets the user control magic. The second one however..."

The doctor looked at him "is the section that makes an individual control this specialized magic that are almost similar to having a specific ability or power. It's even debatable to call it magic since it seems to be a part of that person so we decided to name them quirks."

His mother gaped at that while he's still dazed from the reality of it all to even make any reaction "Can you tell us what kind of quirk this brat has?"

The doctor nodded "He has an explosion quirk that is limited to his hand's sweatglands. I was able to get results that the reason behind that is because the skin in his hands produces a very volatile liquid substance similar to nitroglycerin."

Bakugo stared at his hands while his father beside him decided to ask "Are there circumstances where they can have a quirk but can't control magic?"

"Well you see..." The doctor starts "once a person can manifest magic, having a quirk is expected. A quirk is like an extension to magic and is already an integral part of a wizard atleast for the newer generations but..." he sighed "late bloomers on the other hand can have a quirk and control magic but their ability to control magic is limited in comparison to those who aren't and the size of the first section in the small area in their brain I just pointed will be the basis for that. If the first is larger then they can control magic, it will be slightly lesser to others yet they will be able to fully control it after a long time but if it's not then..." he halted "It will be really difficult to the person to the point that they won't be able to use magic at all."
