Since the moment Arthur saw Merlin, he knew he was going to be someone special to him. Someone who Arthur could rely on, but, of course, he put that feeling aside and taunted Merlin into a fight. How dumb was he when he started growing up? He knew what he said to Merlin back there wasn't good, but there was something enticing about the black hair servant he couldn't put a finger on it. Even when they have their rivalry and were always bickering, they both feel something special and cared about each other.
However, Arthur was getting worried with the passing of days. Merlin was acting strangely, he didn't want to train with him, he didn't want to pass time with Arthur, and overload, he was passing more time in his father's chambers. Sure, he would understand the first two things, but the latter was worrisome and disturbing. He also understood why the servant was always with Lancelot.
Even the prideful Arthur knew that between Merlin and Lancelot there was something going on. Even a blind person knew what was going on between those two. And that mortified Arthur.
He wanted to take Merlin by his arm and dragged him to his quarters and win him over again, if Merlin was his since the beginning, but he knew better than anyone; Merlin didn't belong to him not before, not now, nor never. Merlin chose Lancelot and he was going to let him have him.
That was his thinking before he saw Merlin acting strangely.
Arthur's hopes to woo the mage was increasing little by little and he knew he could make Merlin fall in live with him, the problem was how to make Lancelot disappear and how to make Merlin being his old self.
Arthur also knew Merlin was hiding something big and didn't want anyone to know.
Arthur got up from his bed and sighed when old his body ache. It hadn't been wise to take Lancelot in a fight to see who could win the servants heart. Arthur didn't know Lancelot have it in him to be so competitive in something so trivial. He guesses a certain servant might have changed that in him. The fight had been — short, but nonetheless worth it, he now know where to attack again if they have a fight to death for the servant's love.
With every blow the tall man threw at him and with every swing of his sword, he knew the fight was meaningless and stupid, so before he further embarrassed himself more — his side was killing him, was exhausted, and his head hurt meanwhile Lancelot looked fine as always, no sweat, no panting, and no signs of pain whatsoever mirroring on his face — he called it quits and withdrawn himself from the knackering fight before it was too late, but not too late to make his knights to make fun of him and tease him about the fight. He needed knew knights.
His body couldn't contain any movement right now or for the next few days, yes, that's how beat up he was. But he wasn't not going to admit it anytime soon.
While his body was making progress of moving to get to his drawers, an amusement chuckled was heard at one corner of his room, with his heart going 100 miles per minute, he turned around to see the cause of his near heart failure (he wasn't going to to admit it out loud tho).
"I didn't know Lancelot gave you the beat up of your life, your highness"
"Oh, quit it Merlin," Arthur barked at his friend who was still at the corner of his room, to be more precise, the left side of the room where the light of the sun didn't reach. It was a creepy sight Arthur didn't want to see, enough with his nightmares. "Don't make me shoot you an arrow by accident and kill you in the process, how long have you been standing there anyway?" Arthur asked irritated, he had enough with his so-called friends teasing him, he didn't want Merlin, the reason of all his misfortune, to make fun of him either.
Merlin, oddly enough, didn't move from his spot and continued gazing at Arthur changing his robes into fresh ones. "Not long, just long enough to see you wake up and procrastinate whether to move or not. Why? Are you scared I will jump on you?" Merlin said moving at last to a place he could see him better, where the sun shine the brightest making Arthur's eyes hurt for the change of light.
