Bed Time

"I just have one question," Cole said raising his hand like a school child, even though he wasn't in grade school anymore.

"Yes," Corinne said tilting her head.

"What the heck just happened!"

Cole never got to figure out what happened.

At that moment a servant had burst into the room claiming the room was ready. Jason, doing nothing to hide his relief, had whisked him off to a guest room under the claim that Cole needed rest, and Cole was just so utterly confounded and exhausted by the events of the day that he didn't argue.

It helped that room looked more expensive than any hotel he had ever stayed at, even if it was old fashioned, just like everything in this world from the oil lanterns to the bathroom that Cole wasn't looking forward to figuring out. He did though. Wasn't as refreshing as it could have been.

After Cole had gotten that business out of the way, and enjoyed his own bathroom for once. He was able to fully appreciate the room. Along with the en-suite bathroom, there was a large king size canopy bed, which was more comfortable than any bed Cole had ever slept in, even if it was a little itchy. There was also a the usually nightstands, dressers, sitting area with a fireplace, a carpet that beat the cold wooden floor, wait a second. The fireplace wasn't lit, but Cole wouldn't have minded, the air was stale in the guest room, and the servants or whoever those people were couldn't do everything in such a short time. Cole could clearly see the dust that clung to everything. It was rather knew dust though, and Cole had that to be thankful for. It was as if it had just recently made, and just hadn't had a chance to be used yet. It felt like that too. It had that new car feel. Not that Cole had ever had a new car. Cole debated on asking that man that was stationed outside his room, which he did notice thank you very much Lord Jason, but I am not an idiot, Cole had thought when the man had looked bored when Jason whispered something about watching after he thought Cole had closed the door all the way. But Cole was done being confused for the day, so he didn't bother pursuing things that would only make him grief for early in the garden when things had been so much simpler.

He had put on the clothes that had been left on the bed when he had tried washing. It wasn't the cotton clothes Cole was used to wearing, but the silk-like (if it was silk he wouldn't be able to tell a difference) material would suffice.

As tired as he was. Cole failed to find sleep. His thoughts were in a thousand places, and it didn't help that the bed was just so itchy. Several thoughts kept finding their way back: A) How would he get home. Jason hadn't seemed very enthusiastic to share that information with him. Cole had been scared to ask, and it didn't look like Jason was going to divulge that information. It didn't help Cole's confidence that Jason was from America, that was clear, but he was still here, wherever here was. B) Jason wasn't telling him something. The way he glanced at Cole. The way he stiffed every time Cole spoke. Simple things. Things Cole didn't know he noticed. Things Cole didn't know how he would notice. Almost like he had spy training, but he hadn't had he? C) Corrine and Jason were important people to each other and to the rest of this world, or to whatever mindset Jason's servants and those people in the tavern had. It was the clearest thing to him. The building he was in, even though it was dark so everything was a dark outline when he looked at it from the outside, was grand. Only important people with money live in big, grand buildings. And the way Corrine and Jason looked at each, talked to each. It was beyond the way a brother would love a sister, they teased each other in a different way then Cole would tease Hunter, or even his sister (I almost forgot he had one for a second there, if someone remembers her name, feel free to share). It was so more intimate then that, but that was a world Cole didn't get involved in. He had seen a little bit with his brother, but Hunter was never that involved with the people he got involved with. Cole decided he didn't want to think about it too much, of course, his brain wouldn't let him not. Finally D) There was something wrong in the world, country, town, or whatever place he was in. Jason had scolded Corrine, and Corrine had scolded Jason for being reckless. Something had their nerves on high, and Jason wasn't allowed to do stuff because of it, again proving he was important and thereby linking him back to his previous thought in that lovely little cycle.

Though it was the last thought Cole fell asleep to that mattered the most. It was the first thought he woke up with too, almost as if his dream had done something to explain something he forgot. Cole's abilities: riding a horse, adjusting, assessing, asserting, meant that Cole had tricks up his sleeve, and skills even he didn't know about.

Is that normal?

No, he thought. No it's not.

So ya, this is long overdo, and I may or may not have had writers block.
