"Hey... I'll see you tomorrow," Brandon whispered in my ear. I smiled and nodded, my eyes trained on his face. His twinkling amber eyes met mine, and he stepped in to kiss me one more time, sending a warm rush through my entire body and sparks of electricity racing up and down my spine.
Finally, Brandon stepped back, squeezed my hand one last time, and walked back out of the garden. I watched him go, then began strolling out of the garden as well, my head tipped back to gaze at the clouds overhead.
Everything was perfect right now. I had Beau, I had Brandon, I had great friends, and I had just made an incredible comeback after a terrible fall. What more could I ask for?
My old friends didn't even cross my mind once as I walked out of the hidden garden and started the long walk back to Engerwood. On my way back, I paused to visit Beau. As usual, he was fast asleep. Not wanting to wake him, I just smiled at him, and made my way out of the stable.
Snow drifted down, resting in huge banks along the walls and in thin layers on the lawns. Lanterns glowed softly, marking the edges of the cobblestone paths which criss-crossed campus.
Tomorrow I would leave on Thanksgiving break. It would be nice to see my family again. I hadn't seen my mom since my time in the hospital, and my dad I hadn't seen since the start of the schoolyear. Thinking about them gave me a pang of homesickness, but after my meeting with Brandon, I was on Cloud Nine, and there was no bringing me down.
I reached Engerwood at last. My old friends hadn't crossed my mind once tonight. It had taken a while, but it was time I embraced my current friends (and new boyfriend!!!!! Eeeee!!!!!) and was happy with everything I had now.
I stepped through Engerwood's gorgeous front doors. My friends were watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron in the common room. I joined them on the couch, grabbed a handful of popcorn, and let myself get lost in the movie and the conversation as my friends immediately asked me about my night.
