Chapter 10: The Secret Weapon
We heard the paws again, the next day. This time Jacob came through the doors. Edward quickly got up and went out of hearing range with him, after telling Bella that he'd be right back of course.
So we just sat around, doing nothing. Finally they came back and we all looked at them suspiciously. Jacob hesitated in the doorway breathing fresh air. I glanced over at Bella. Rosalie's hand was resting possesivly on her cheek. Why can't Bella see what Rosalie is doing?
A minute later Jacob came back in with Edward trailing behind. Edward pushed Jacob forward. He walked up to Bella, grabbed her hands and tried to warm them with friction.
"Thanks Jake. That feels good." Bella whispered. It wouldn't have been audible to a human that had thier ear pressed up against her mouth.
"i'm not going to lie Bells," Jacob said trying to keep from breaking out infront of everybody. "You look hideous." he finished, trying to lighten the mood. It worked to an extent.
Bella cracked the tiniest of smiles.
"I know I'm scary looking." she sighed.
"Thing from the swamp scary." she managed a weak laugh than got serious again.
"It's good having you here. It feels nice to smile after so long."
"Hey!" I said, smiling.
"Oh, you know I love you Bree and don't worry you'll always help me laugh and smile, but I don't know how much more drama I can stand." She said, making me smile and makin Jacob roll his eyes.
"Okay, okay. I bring it on myself."
"Yeah, you do," he said with certain edge in his voice. "I mean seriously, Bella! What were you thinking?!"
"Wow, Jacob. Way to make a girl feel special." I said sarcasticly. Jacob sighed.
"Stay ou of this, Bree." he said.
"Whatever." I said than walked farther away.
"Did he ask you to yell at me?" Bella asked Jacob. I rolled my eyes. As if he would ever do that to her and for her to even think that... Ugh.
"Sort of," way to make him look like the bad guy, Jacob. "Though I can't figure out why he thinks that you'd listen to me. You never have before." She sighed after he was finished.
"I told-" Jacob started.
"Did you know that 'I told you so' has a brother, Jacob? His name is 'shut the hell up.'" I cracked a small smile. Same ol' Bella on her death bed or not.
"Nice one." Jacob said with no emotion. Bella grinned and it looked... Wrong. Her skin stretched over her face. It was... Scary.
"I can't take credit -- I got it off of a rerun of The Simpsons." she said.
"Didn't see that one." Jacob replied.
"It was funny." after Bella said that it got quiet. Like awkward quiet. Jacob had a serious face, but also kind of looked like he was talking in his mind. No doubt that he was. Probaby talking to Edward. All of a sudden Bella spoke up.
"Did he really ask you to talk to me?" Jacob nodded.
"To talk some sense into you. There's a battle that's lost before it even starts." he was right. She wouldn't change her mind. She was set. She was going to keep the thin that lived inside of her.
"So, why did you agree?" Bella asked. He didn't answer. It would be hard for him to let her go. Whether she died or became a vampire.
"It'll work out, you know," Bella whispered, breaking the silence... again. "I believe that." Jacob looked angry now. Oop. Better move back... again.
"Is dementia one of your symptoms?" he asked. Bella laughed, although to me -- and probably everyone except Bella on the room -- he looked like he was absolutley serious.
"Maybe. I'm not saying that things will work out easily, Jake." I cringed at that sentence. "But how could I have lived through all that I've lived trough and not believe in magic." It was confirmed. She had gone off the deep end, but I had to admit I was close to believing in magic, too. I mean there are vampires and werewolves, so why not magic? For all I know, Harry Potter could be real.
Jacob looked very confused.
"Magic?" he asked.
"Especially for you." Bella said smiling -- gruseomly. She dropped his hands. I forgot that she had been holding them the whole time. She placed a hand on his cheek.
"More than anyone else, you've got some magic waiting to make things right for you."
"What are you babbling about?" Jacob asked her. She just kept smiling.
"Edward once told me what it was like -- your imprinting thing. He said it was like A Midsummer Night's Dream, like magic. You'll find who your really looking for, Jacob, then maybe one day his will all make sense." she finished. I was so confused. What was she talking about? Jacob imprinting on somebody would make this right? Was she crazy? This had nothing to do with anything. Jacob looked like he was about to kill someone as did Edward.
Jacob quickly gained his composure. He did growl at her, though.
"If you think that me imprinting, would make this insanity..." he was having trouble finding words to show how angry he actually was shaking now. "Do you think that me imprinting on some stranger, will make this right?" he said pointing at her stomach, "Tell me what the point was then, Bella. What was the point of me loving you? What was the point of you lovig him? When you die-" he was snarling now, "How is that ever right again? What's the point to all of the pain? Mine, yours, his? You'll kill him, too, not thy I care about that," she visibly flinched. I just openly glared at him, "So what was the pint to your twisted love story, in the end? If there is any sense, please show me, Bella, because I don't see it." he finally finished. All in all I was pretty impressed by his rant, Bella and everyone else didn't look to impressed, mostly annoyed and angry. I would love for her to show everybody how this makes any sense. Why she was doing this to everyone who loved her. Everyone in this room loved her except for Rosalie of course.
Bella sighed.
"I don't know yet, Jake. I just... feel... that this is going somewhere good, hard to see as it is, now. I guess you could call it faith."
I huffed. That didn't explain anything.
