Kankuro POV
I glare angrily at the sight in front of me, I fight the urge to physically separate them from each other. Kasai and my brother Gaara have been talking closely for almost two hours now, and it's starting to drive me insane. Sure he's my brother and sure I trust Kaz but, all the time they've been spending together recently is making me suspicious.
I tap my foot impatiently as they continue to talk quietly to themselves, smiling and occasionally laughing. What are they up to?
I've had enough. Pulling myself from the wall, I take quick strides towards my girlfriend, making sure to announce my presence by clearing my throat.
"Pardon me for a moment."
Kasai turns around in surprise, a gorgeous smile lights up her face. The sight of it knocks back my irritation almost completely.
"Hey Kuro!!"
She calls out in excitement, pulling me into a kiss when I get close enough. My irritation long forgotten, I turn to my brother and loop my arm around my girlfriends waist.
"If you don't mind Gaara, I need to borrow my girlfriend for a few hours. That is if you don't mind?"
A small smile crosses his face and he nods, not wasting any time, I grab Kasai's hand and lead her out the door and onto the streets of Suna.
"So Mr. Impatient, what's so urgent?"
She asks in a voice on the verge of laughter.
"You're late for our date, I came here to retrieve you."
"I'm sorry, I must have lost track of the time."
She apologizes.
"It's alright, you were in a meeting with the Kazekage, it couldn't be helped."
"I'm still sorry, I should have paid better attention."
"It's alright, now we can spend more time together today."
She nods and we continue on our date, eating at local shop. After spending a couple more hours together, she eventually has to return to the room she's staying in while she's working in Suna.
The next week only brings back my suspicions, she spends even longer hours working with my brother, and she keeps forgetting the time when I pick her up for our dates. She seems distracted and unfocused, but every time I ask her about it she says it's just stress from work.
Its only when she starts disappearing for a few hours every day for three days when my concern escalates. By the night of the third day I decide to confront her about it, her behavior really is starting to worry me.
Getting up the next morning, I notice something stuck under the door. Looking closer it's a folded piece of paper.
Kankuro
Meet me at our favorite spot in Suna. I'll be there shortly.
Love Kasai
With worry still plaguing me, I head to our favorite spot in Suna after getting dressed. Planning on asking her upfront about her odd behavior after I see her. Arriving at the place, the restaurant we had our first date at, I notice the lights are off. Pushing the door hesitantly, I walk inside the dark room, my senses in overdrive. All of a sudden, the lights flick on, startling me.
"SURPRISE!!!"
I find myself surrounded by my friends and siblings, all grinning at my startled expression. Among the crowd I see a familiar smiling face looking at me, Kaz. She comes towards me, pulling me into a short kiss.
"Happy Birthday Kuro."
"Birthday? My birthday isn't for another..."
I count of the days in my head, and my eyes widen as I remember what day it is. I have been so caught up with figuring out my girlfriends strange behavior that I forgot that it's my birthday. I shake my head as I put the pieces together. Kasai must have been planning this for a while, and that's why she spent so much time with my brother and why she disappeared without telling me where she went.
"You sneaky little kunoichi."
She grins deviously.
"Why thank you love."
"So this is what you've been doing all this time?"
I ask as everyone mingles around and talks, giving us some alone time.
"What did you think I was doing?"
"I honestly don't know. All I do know is that I started getting jealous of my own brother."
She chuckles a little before pulling me in for another kiss.
"Trust me Kuro, you have nothing to be jealous of."
I kiss her back deeply, ignoring the wolf whistles and people saying to get a room. My worries long forgotten, I enjoy the rest of my birthday with my mischievous kunoichi.
