"Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong."

~Unkown~

The sea and setting sun is set in front of me as the boat docks at the pier. It was a beautiful sight to see after being trapped under the deck for two weeks. My limbs ached from lack of exercise and I still had a couple of bruises from the last battle where they captured us. It was the only battle they had won in three months.

"Get a move on, ya' rats," said one of the soldiers, forcing the other captives forward.

A different soldier walked up to a middle-aged woman with a broken ankle. She was struggling to walk, but he didn't care. Instead of helping her, he simply said "if ye can't walk, then ya' be thrown overboard." Then he waited a minute.

I rushed over and put myself between them, on my knees beside her with my head down. "She'll heal. I'll help her there." Then he huffed and walked away.

I helped her to her feet, putting one arm around her, before hobbling back into the line-up.

"Thank you. You didn't have to." She said.

"Yes, I did. Everyone is needed and has a purpose in this war. You're no exception." When I finished she smiled and we made our way to wherever they were taking us.

O O O

When we arrived at the cells I could already feel eyes on us. Everyone stopped there, but I handed my companion off to another of my partners in this war and pushed to the front of our little group.

Around us were barred cells opening up to small caverns and rooms under the earth made of stone and iron. Above us was a circle opening ringed with gold. Above that was a big room like a main hall where they were celebrating. Champagne and different seafoods, fancy clothes, and women caked in make up. Some looked down at us as we gathered to look upwards.

Some whispered and pointed down, others minded their own business and didn't even acknowledge us.

I looked back at the room we were in and saw the stone floor with a wooden area beneath the opening above. It looked clean compared to everything else. Out of place.

"Is there a captain or general down there?" He called. He was tall with brown hair and brown eyes. Cute.

I raised my hand along with a few other comrades. Everyone looked at me oddly, the only girl down there too young to be married and way too young to even be considered for one of these high ranking titles. The young man just raised one eyebrow before smiling and looking at a man, guard maybe?

"You four there! I need ya' to get to the wooden panels there and the youngest of ya' will hop on first, then the next youngest after that and so on. Understand?" He made motions with his hands as he talked. We did as he said and I stepped onto the wooden platform first.

"Very good then, sweetheart. Now don't panic little sugar but your gonna be raised up ok?" He smirked while the others laughed. The panel raised up till I was eye level with them in the center of the circle, but there was too much space between me and the actual ground to jump.

"What's ya' name, honey?" His voice sounded sugar coated and left a bitter taste in my mouth.

"Lilura Nisha, warrior of the Tsillah Assay." I smiled. I'm sure they've heard of me.

Everyone went silent. The tall attractive man coughed to get the attention back on him. I looked at all the faces around, only stopping to stare at one particular that gained my attention.

I knew this man, but I couldn't put my finger on it. He just seemed familiar.

"Alright. We got 50 for this lady. Do we have anybody willin' to bid higher?" All of a sudden the man I was looking at raised his hand.

"150," he said, his eyes not leaving mine for even a second, still assessing me. Watching me. I smirked.

"150? That's it? Wow, guess this is a boring party." A young woman said, laughing with her friends.

My eyes flitted to her for only a second but the man was already gone when I turned back to him. I huffed before facing her again. "Please, let me make it more exciting for you," I said before leaping over the area and barely missing it. I gripped onto the gold with my hands and pulled myself up.

They gasped and stumbled backwards as I stood up. I looked at the announcer, but he didn't have any keys and I knew there wasn't a guard outside of the cells. I looked over at the other guards in the room, but still no hope. I had no idea where the keys were.

Two guards raced towards me, pulling out there swords and getting into fighting stance.

"Two against one? That's not fair." I said, advancing on them.

I dodge a swing from one of their swords and grabbed a champagne glass. I threw it on the floor and grabbed the sharpest shard of the broken pieces I could find. I looked back up to see that more guards were now here. This should be fun.

The first one came towards me. I slid on the floor and kicked him at his shin, causing him to fall. I stood back up and drove the glass shard into his neck between the armor plates. The third one came closer, hesitating just long enough for me to punch him. His helmet twisted sideways and he stumbled back into the pit where my comrades were.

They raced towards him and made sure he stayed down. The first guard came up behind me and grabbed me. I swung my head back, his grip loosening, and then fell between his legs and kicked him into the pit. I stood back up and faced the last two guards. One wasn't wearing much armor. He must've been the Captain of the Guard.

I leaped onto his shoulders and swung, sending him onto the ground. He was still having trouble breathing when I faced the last guard, but he had already ran to get back-up.

The room was now empty. The people must have ran out during the battle. Lucky them.

All of sudden a hand touched my lower back and guided me out of the room. A solid cold iron metal touched my hands and the man I saw earlier whispered in my ear.

"You owe me," He said and then he was gone. I looked behind me but there wasn't anyone there. It wouldn't be long before other guards came. I had no time to look for him.

I ran down the stairs to my right and then took a turn to the left, another left, a right and - Bam! Found it. I quickly let them out and found my old friend and fellow commander.

"Well, I can scratch that off my bucket list." I smiled.

"Who puts being bid on to be a slave and then breaking free while everyone looks at my butt on their bucket list?"

"Me? And they weren't looking at my butt!"

"The brown haired guy was." She said before helping me rush everyone down the hall. I just stared at her in astonishment before laughing and continuing with the action at hand.

Was he looking at my butt too? No Lilura. Get it together, it was just one attractive dude bidding 150 pounds of gold on you. No big deal.

"Come on, come on. Let's go!" I called before unlocking the other prisoners from the cells. We had to leave.
