             *~*~*3rd Person POV~*~*~

The kingdom was still, morning sun just peaking over the mountains. The hills vast and green. It was peaceful, though it seemed anyway. In truth, the castle was quite lively. Preparing meals, cleaning, and guarding against any threats. Maids rushing around the castle, Butlers making preparations for the day that lay in wait. Guards, insuring the safety of the royal children, Prince Dream and Princess Nightmare. Months prior to today their father died due to unknown illness. Their mother, the Queen, passed away years ago while the children were young. Dream was older than Nightmare, in result after their fathers passing he would have rights to the throne. Nightmare on the other hand, would not have any rights to the throne unless her brother passed. Unlikely however, Dream was far stronger than his father. As the day in the castle began, the two royal children were just waking up.

Dreams POV
As I was woken from my slumber I got dressed. My casual, yet still proper outfit, laced in gold. I grabbed my amulet my father gave me, and walked out of my room and down to the dining hall. My sister, Nightmare wasn't there which I expected. She often wakes up late, or puts up a fight to be woken. However, I can't eat without her here due to tradition and rules. So I decided to wake her myself.

As I made my way to her room I observed the halls I've known all my life. The halls seemed dim, almost sad. Once full of laughter when I was younger, now tainted with bitterness. I doubt it is because of my fathers passing. He was a good king, but never a great father. After my mother's sudden death, he changed. No longer supporting my sister or I. Only focused on work and village problems. There were a multitude of problems that came with the village. Including orphans, they were problematic on their own. Making trouble with store owners. Stealing, vandalism, and pranks that's all they were known for. Thinking about this makes my head spin. I will be king once I'm 18. When that happens these problems will be mine.

I arrived at my sisters door. Knocking once, I waited. I heard a groan and some shuffling on the other side. When the door opened, there stood my sister. She was half awake and still looked tired. " How late did you stay up this time?" I said relatively annoyed. Nightmare glared at me before responding, " Tell 1:00am, why are you here?" She opened her door to let me in. " I am here because I'm not allowed to eat without you, so hurry and get dressed." I responded to her question, while she walked into the bathroom. Closing the door behind her. I waited for 10mins before she came out of the bathroom. " Let's go eat." She said yawning. Nodding I walked out the door with her.

??? POV
" Get back here you brat!" The store clerk yelled as I ran away. So stupid, a little distraction and I got two loaves of bread. I rolled my eyes as I received glares from other people. Not many were out yet, it was early enough in the morning. " Hey!" I heard a deep voice yell. I looked back to see two royal guards. ' Dang it.' I thought. Taking a sharp turn I almost tripped. Slowing me down enough to start a slight panicking. " Stop running now, and we'll let you go with a warning!" The man shouted again. I proceeded to keep running, only making him madder.

I ran into an ally, dead end. " We got you kid, no use trying to escape." The man said, trying to corner me. A thought popped into my head. It was worth a shot, better than going back to the orphanage. Getting low, I jumped on the brick wall. Repeating this process till I reached the top. I heard the guard groan in annoyance and walk out of the ally. Breathing a sigh of relief I headed back to my 'home' and or best friend. It was in the abandoned part of the village. Where most children dared not to go. That made it perfect for us, because we didn't want people there. Just me and Cross, and some stray cats. Cross, like me, isn't to fond of the royal guards we have around. They are, how would you say, stuck up. However, he does like to be around other people, something I despise.

As I arrived at our abandoned house I saw cross waiting for me. " Ink!" He yelled, painfully loud. I stopped running and walked towards him. " I told you to be home 45mins ago! Why were you so late!" Rolling my eyes I handed him the bread and sat down. " Ink, don't tell me you were painting on the walls again." Cross said sternly looking at me. " Fine, I won't tell you." I smirked, knowing this would make him mad. Right before he yelled at me we saw a shadow emerge. " Hey Night." Cross said, I waved at our other friend. She may be the princess, but she doesn't act like it. Nightmare comes here every other day. " I heard someone stole so bread a few miles away, anything to do with you two?" I looked down at my feet, knowing today was one of those days. " Ink, we've been over this. No making trouble in the village unless Cross or I am there." She said looking at me from afar. " Cross wasn't awake, and you were in the castle, what was I supposed to do?!" Nightmare rolled her eyes at me. " You could have waited, then we could have all went out." Cross nodded at me. " Alright mother, stop with the lecture. I'm hungry." Sarcasm filled my voice. They looked at each other and sighed. " okay, but next time call us." I shrugged and went on with eating.
