I know when you see your mate its suppose to be the greatest love story you will ever have. I mean the first time you meet them is the story you tell your children. So logically the smart thing to do would be to say something worthy for your children to hear.
Yet, as you can guess that was not going to the case.
As I looked at the handsome boy's eyes all I could whisper was
oh um hi"The expression of his face was incredulous and I'm sure mine wasn't much better. I sure as hell didn't expect to meet the person that I was suppose to be destined to meet with especially in these clothes in and in such a sleep deprived state. Yeah, think I'm just gonna lie to my kids.
"What are you doing here?" and I quickly add "Not that I don't want you here." Fuck, what the actual hell is wrong with me. Yeah, I'm definitely lying to my posterity.
After my ingenious statement about his presence at the store, he gives me a hard look, all of the smile he held in his eyes disappear. As he is about to say something we both hear a crash. He quickly breaks eye contact with me. He then walks over to his unruly gang and I realize that they just knocked over two different displays I set up not less than an hour ago. I mentally groan, then my mate storms over the group and they quickly sober up. He quickly barks something at them and they all trip over each other to get out of the store. I hear a few of them mutter some type of apology and as their leader makes his way to the door he makes eye contact with me and for the briefest second his eyes flash golden.
I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding and begin picking up the mess that his comrades created. My mind begins to drift about who my mate is and why did he decide to come into a book store at night.
It takes me nearly an hour to pick up the books and by now it's close to 10 at night. I go in the back to go put back the broom and turn off the lights in the back. When I come in the front I nearly scream because there he is waiting in outside the door staring me down, I quickly scramble to the door and unlock it to let him in.
"JESUS CHRIST, how long were you out there for? You know it really doesn't look good when I strange man is looking through the doors at some unsuspecting worker." Just then I hear Janice.
"Hey Ash, have you finished with the displays? I need to get home soon in order to meet Richard for dinner." I slap my hand on my forehead how could I forget it's her 20th anniversary with her mate. I quickly run to the back office.
"Yeah, I can close up tonight if you want. Have fun tonight, happy anniversary! Also, I can open tomorrow if you want to come in late" I give her a warm smile and I hear a low growl come from the front of the store that I ignore.
Janice looks at me with worry, I guess that wasn't as low of a growl and I thought it was. I wince a little and whisper to her that I am being walked home by a friend so I won't be out alone, I hear a louder growl. God, if he is this bad at eavesdropping already I don't want to know what he does when he will be able to mind link me. Janice gives me a knowing smirk and then gives me the keys to lock up. I give her a weak smile as she slips past me and makes her way out the door. Right before she leaves she gives me a wink and smiles at him and then is gone out of thin air.
I make eye contact with him and mutter that I'll be ready to go in a few minutes. I quickly sweep up and turn off the lights in the office all the while I can feel him burning holes in the back of my head. Finally, I grab my coats the keys and nod at him that I'm ready. I quickly turn off the lights and lock that doors. If I'm being honest with myself I was taking as much time as I could to avoid talking to him because I wasn't really sure what to say. I mean I didn't even know his name. When I finish with the door I finally make eye contact and I say let's go. That's when he finally opens his mouth to speak.
"I didn't mean to scare you. I uh just needed to see you again, since you know the first time we got cut off by my dumbass pack mates." He laughs nervously and scratches the back of his neck. " So...were you really going to walk by yourself in the dark? That's dangerous, you can't do that anymore." He gives me a hard look.
"Uh, I don't think walking home with a stranger, whose name I don't even know is really that much safer. Besides its not like I haven't done it a 1000 times before you showed up." My eyes widen and I slap my hands over my mouth, oops why to give off a great impression Ash.
"My name is Tyler Whitbea." He states with absolutely no gusto. Great my mate already hates me and its been a total of 5 minutes. "And yours is Ash...?"
"Ashley" I state as I break out of my trance. Just a few more minutes and we will be at the apartment I think.
Tyler nods his head in approval and then clears his throat, "So um I am the soon to be alpha to the Whitestone pack. Uh and I will be leaving the day after tomorrow, so pack your essentials and I will have the boys bring the rest of your belongings."
Suddenly, I break out of my train of thought. I didn't even think about the fact that I would have to go back to his pack. I don't even know where his pack is located, "So where does the Whitestone pack reside?"
"Washington state" I nearly choke, we're in Maryland.
