Families rushing to head home, hands full of late Christmas presents. The sky getting darker by the minute. Oh how beautiful the sky was on this cold December night. How you wished he was back home to you, but that felt impossible. It has been roughly three years that he has been away from home... Celebrating yet another New Years alone.

---

"F/N~!", Daichi's mother called out. "Sweetie, can you help me with the table?".You rushed over to your mother-in-law, helping her set the table. Daichi's younger siblings running around in the living room, playing with Kuma. You smiled seeing his and your dog playing with his siblings. You missed how Kuma ran around like that especially when Daichi would take him out for daily walks. You looked over and saw your father-in-law walking in from the backyard.

"A-Ahh!" you panicked. You helped him as he was struggling to even getting through the door. "O-Otou-san... Y-You could've asked me to help you..." you said as you took the plate from him.

"I still have some strength in me!" he said with a big smile on his face. You giggled. You knew how much he was in pain, but he prays that every year he gets stronger and not weaker. You place the plate on the table and dinner was almost ready. Your mother-in-law had a beautiful cake ready for dessert and your mouth watered.

"Sweetie~ As much as you love desserts, we haven't had dinner yet~" she teased. You puffed your cheeks and let out a giggle. You saw that she set an extra plate and utensils next to your seat and you tilted your head. Maybe she wanted to put something out since Daichi wasn't spending the holidays with you and the family. You helped your siblings-in-law to their chairs, Kuma walking behind. You grabbed his bowl and placed it right next to you and filled it up with his favorite dog food and along with some grilled meat because he was being a good boy this year. You and the family sat down and joined hands. Your father-in-law said a prayer for the new year to come smoothly and for Daichi's safety out in the field. This made you tear up. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

"O-Oh... I'll go get that!" said your sister-in-law.

"Ahh~ why don't you make (F/N) get the door. I think it might be Oji-san and Oba-san~". You got up from your seat and headed to the door. You can hear them outside the door, bickering that they forgot to bring something. You quickly opened the door and the whole world stopped.

"Happy New Years my love." You can see Oji-san and Oba-san smiling in the back. You jumped on Daichi and cried. He was finally home. "I'm home my love. I'm finally home." He kissed your cheek and carried you inside the house. "I arrived two days ago and stayed with them for the meantime. Oka-san and Otou-san knew about my arrival too." He sat on the floor, holding you tight as well as Kuma, who was excited to see Daichi again. He chuckled seeing his furry friend pouncing on the both of you, overly excited to see his master again.

"The food isn't going to eat itself~" your mother-in-law said. The both of you stood up and headed to the table where everyone else was waiting. Your father-in-law continued his prayers and the feast began. Daichi spoke about his time in the military and that his injuries were finally healed, making you feel the sense of relief. He had to explain as to why he couldn't write to you and that he only wrote to his parents. Your cheeks puffed up and laughter can be heard all around the dining room. His grandmother scolded him that he should've wrote something to you because you are his wife. He apologized with a kiss on the back of your hand.

"When are you two going to have a baby?" his grandmother said. This made both him and you spit out your water.

"O-Oba-san...", Daichi said in embarrassment. His mother giggled and reassured her own mother that when the time is right, Daichi and you will have a baby of your own. "When she's ready, I'm ready", he said with a smile on his face. He meant the world to you and seeing a mini Daichi or a mini you running around, made you smile.

"Well, hurry up!" his grandmother joked. "I'm not getting any younger!" Everyone in the dining room laughed. Your mother-in-law held the cake and to your surprise, she wrote something on the cake without you knowing.

"Happy New Years Eve and Happy Birthday my son", she smiled. (A/N: If you don't know, Daichi's birthday is on December 31st :) Which is when this takes place. A New Years Eve dinner and his birthday. ANYWAYS!). You mentally slapped your forehead. How could you forget his birthday? You got up and rushed to his bedroom. Everyone tilted their heads as they saw you run to the room. You quickly rummaged under his bed and found a box that you've hid since he left. You walked out, present behind your back.

"H-Honey... I've been meaning to send this to you while you were out... I just never got the chance to do so". Daichi got up and walked to you. You revealed a present that was a bit dusty. You quickly wiped it and handed it to him. "H-Happy Birthday". He opened it and to his surprise, it was a small picture book that had memories of the first date, your long distance relationship, moving in together, Kuma's first day home, Daichi's proposal, and the wedding. He hugged you tight and kissed your forehead.

"I love it, baby. I'm so sorry that I kept you waiting for so long... and that I barely wrote to you". You hugged him back, tears streaming down your face. He looked at you and wiped your tears. He gave you a loving kiss to the lips.

"O-Oi! Onii-san!" his younger brother yelled out. "Can we have cake already?" The both of you laughed and head back to the table. Everyone sang as he blew out his candle. His grandmother wished that you and Daichi have a baby, causing the family to laugh again. He served his siblings first since they were getting antsy for some sweets. His father bringing out the beer for the adults.

Time has passed since his arrival to the house. The night went smoothly, seeing the grown men talk about Daichi's deployment, the kids and Kuma playing, the ladies giggling. It was a cute sight to see. Daichi wraps his arms around your waist, looking up at the dark sky. You felt happy and safe now that he's back home.

"When you're ready, I'm ready", he says as he hugs you tightly. The clock ticks down and everyone heads outside. The neighbors also heads out to see the new year fireworks. "I'm here to stay my love. We can finally start on our little family." You turn around and wrapped your arms around his neck. You kissed him. Soon, the fireworks blew up signaling that it's midnight.

You pulled away. "Happy New Years Daichi and yes, I am ready". He smiled at you and gave you a long and passionate kiss. He swoops you off your feet and headed inside the house. You already know what comes next.
