The Prince and Princess of Wales start African tour in Gambia
Britain's Prince Antony and his wife Princess Lucia landed Monday in The Gambia for the first leg of a week-long African tour aimed at strengthening ties with Commonwealth nations.
He and Princess Lucia, the Princess of Wales, were received Monday by the Gambian President and his wife.
The country, which is almost completely surrounded by Senegal along the West African coast.
On Tuesday, Prince Antony is to visit the Medical Research Council, a faculty of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, during what is his first visit to the country.
He and Lucia are then expected to visit Ghana before ending their trip in Nigeria on March 6 - 8, a statement said.

The Prince and Princess of Wales tour of Ghana
Day One
The Prince and Princess of Wale arrived in Ghana on Friday to an incredible "Akwaaba", or "Welcome" as they continue their Royal Tour.
The Prince and The Princess were hosted at a Welcome Ceremony at Jubilee House where they met The President of Ghana, and the First Lady.
Their Royal Highnesses visited the Commonwealth War Graves and were joined by The Earl of Wessex who is visiting Ghana as part of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award.
