Starting off the new year with a new chapter! Woo

Sorry it took so long to get it out! I had a few plot points I needed to figure out, and college got really hectic really quickly. But, here it is! (One day I'll get the formatting to not be garbage, but not today, apparently)

I took some liberties with originals lore and backstory, because who cares about canon when I can just make my own version, you know? There's also a bit of retconning in this chapter, which I hate doing, but it was necessary for me to move the story forward.

Also, this story had gotten over 3.9K reads, and that is absolutely crazy to me. Thank you so much to everyone who has checked out this story. I never thought anyone would ever read it, so the fact that there are almost four thousand really means a lot to me. <3

Anyways, I hope you enjoy it, and sorry about the wait! :)

"Tell me about him,"

Elijah looked up from his book. "Who?"

Damon rolled his eyes, flipping a page in the book he was pretending to read. "Your brother. And I know you have several, so tell me about the interesting one."

Elijah closed his book, placing it atop his lap. He looked at the cover as he spoke. "My younger brother, Niklaus, is devious, conniving, and always gets what he wants in the end. He controls, kills, and tortures anyone as long as it serves his purpose. He doesn't feel remorse, or doesn't show it if he does." He paused. "He's self-serving, selfish, cruel, and paranoid. I can help him, declare my loyalty over and over again, but it won't change the fact that he will never trust me entirely."

Realizing something, Damon asked as gently as he could. "If he's so terrible, why do you stick around?"

Elijah met his gaze. "We're family," he said. "And despite everything, I love him."

~~~~~~~~
Elijah awoke on the ground, disoriented. There was no way for him to know how long he had been down, or under what circumstances he had been revived. He looked around, the scene not being dissimilar to what he last remembered seeing.
"So, brother," Elijah heard the distinct voice of his brother say. "Let's have a little chat, what do you say?"
"Klaus." Elijah stood up and slammed Klaus into the wall behind him. He was getting answers, consequences be damned.
Klaus gave an amused chuckle. "Do you really wish to fight me?"
"I'm not playing your games anymore. Also, you daggered me, so please forgive me for being a little on edge."
Klaus grabbed the arm holding him in place and twisted until Elijah was forced to back away. "Listen, want to ask you as many questions as you probably want to ask me, so why don't we sit down and act civilly? That is your thing, is it not?" Klaus said, then turned to walk out of the room.
Once Klaus had turned the corner, Elijah retrieved the discarded dagger from the floor and tucked it into his jacket pocket. He figured his brother could spare it.
"Are you coming, or do you not want to know anything?" Klaus called from the other room.
Wordlessly, Elijah followed where his brother led.
~~~~~~~~

"Don't you fancy anyone?" Klaus teased, poking Elijah in the side. They were walking through the woods, looking for any animals caught in traps. "I'd be surprised if you didn't, with how many girls stare at you as you walk through the village."
