Last night was like a dream...or should I say nightmare! Dad refused to talk to me, Matt my older brother yelled at me for at least two hours about what I did to dad, and then reality sank in...in three days I would be starting fifty hours of hell.

Rolling out of my warm bed I checked the time on my cell and groaned, it was already seven thirty and I was due at school in half an hour. There is a storm brewing, I love thunderstorms, it almost is fitting with how I feel right now. Quickly changing into my denim shorts and a cute pink tee I grab my bag and run down stairs.

Small rolls of thunder can be heard in the distance as I reached the door to the back porch...this storm looks to be a good one and one worth being late to school for. Sliding open the back door I take a seat on the love swing and watch as dark clouds roll in.

The thunder gets closer and louder, the sky is almost black and the humidity in the air causes me to start sweating. A small whimper caught my attention and I when I looked down I noticed Smudge our bulldog staring at me.

Smudge is the Fattest, laziest and smelliest member of our family. Dad bought him just after mum died, he thought we could all pour our extra love into him...but really I think dad just needed a companion.

"Hey Smudge" I cooed as I lent forward to scratch the roll of skin under his neck. He arched his head up and smiled at me. I know it sounds corny saying a dog smiled, but if you have ever had the chance to own a Bulldog then you would understand what I meant.

A large clap of thunder sounded shaking the house, with a yelp and a scurry I found myself bolted to the love swing by sixty pounds of dog... yep the big fat tough looking Smudge is a wee bit scared of storms.

"Hehehe" I loughed cuddling into him

"Its not going to hurt you"

"Paige" my dad startled me, looking back at the door I smile at him as he watches the sky

"Sorry dad Smudge and I are storm watching" I told him as I petted the spare cushion beside me

"Do you know honey, I haven't sat back and watched a storm roll in since...well since that day" he sighed handing me a hot cup of coffee and sitting down on the cushion.

"I know dad, but sometimes I feel it brings me closer to her" another clap of thunder sounds and I laugh as Smudge wedged himself between dad and I

"Silly mutt" dad chuckled, as we both went back to watching the sky, both in our own little worlds whilst also comforting the dog.

Looking at the time on my cell I jumped off the swing and kissed dad on his cheek

"I gotta run dad, hopefully I can beat the rain, if not I will pull over somewhere safe and wait it out ok" I mumbled as I raced through the house and out the front door.

The trip to school was quick, and lucky enough I was able to beat the storm. Parking in my favourite spot I ran from my truck and made it to the front doors just as the first splatters of rain fell. I was late enough that I missed homeroom so after grabbing a late pass and running to my locker I walked calmly to my first class.

Mary was leaning against the wall beside the door as I made my way closer, she did not look impressed with me and even though I had texted her to let her know what had happened yesterday she still seemed kinda pissed.

"PJ, where in the hell where you!" she exclaimed as I stopped in front of her

"I am sorry Mary but I got caught up watching the storm come in and then dad joined me and..."

"Ewe you smell like dog" she wrinkled her nose up at me and pulled her body spray from her bag.

"There at least you smell half human again, but why in god's name did you smell like a kennel?"
