chapter twenty: i'll wait

emilia's leg bounced up and down while trying to figure out how to tell jaeden about her feelings, they were on there way to the airport and emilia procrastinated for so long that she's telling him last minute. finally, the uber came to a stop and the pair got out of the car. before emilia could get to the trunk, jaeden was already setting her suitcase on the ground and shutting the trunk.
"sure you got everything?" he asked with a sad smile.
"i believe so but, if i don't i have an excuse to come back" she jokes, trying to lighten the mood. she didn't want to leave the boy, honestly she would do anything to stay but she knew she would have to leave at some point. the two walked into the airport and looked around for her gate.
"im gonna miss you, so much" he crooned.
"im gonna miss you too" emilia spoke, and pulled him in for a hug.
"okay, i have to tell you something, i promised my self i would before i leave." emilia blurted.
noticing her obvious discomfort, jaeden took the girls hands, and smiled.
"okay, go ahead" he replied, with a soft smile.
"uh okay, i'm just gonna say it before i chicken out" she chuckled.
"i developed some feelings for you, awhile ago actually. i wanted to tell you this whole time but i don't want to ruin our friendship over this. if you don't reciprocate i want you to just know." she professed, nervously.
jaeden's smile faded a bit as he opened his mouth to respond.
"emilia, i'd be lying if i said i didn't like you a lot but, i'm simply not in the right headspace" he paused to scan her face, before continuing.
"i promise this won't damage our friendship or anything, i wouldn't do that to you. thank you for being honest and telling me though"
"yeah, i get it, thanks for being cool about it" she sighed, putting on a fake smile.
before jaeden could reply emilia's flight was announced on the intercom.
"guess that's my cue" she laughed.
"bye lia, be safe!" he exclaimed.
"bye jae" she responded. she started walking away but turned around before she got too far away. she saw jaeden still standing in the same spot.
"hey jaeden, i'll wait for you" she concluded and walked away, letting a few tears slip.
