The day went by so fast that I wasn't able to keep up with the sudden events. Everything felt so broken but at the same time it felt as if it was the beginning of something . My dad and brother suddenly appeared out of nowhere after all these years. Could it be a sign?
"What are your thoughts?" Harry asked as he lifted the bag he packed for our flight tomorrow.
I sighed as I fumbled with my hands, "Moving to California was a mistake."
He stood crossing his arms around his chest. His gaze was so intense I could feel his frustrated thoughts over my choice of words, "Why would you say that?"
"I'm too far away from my mother which means I can't protect her from my dad. My brother..." I stopped and run my fingers through my hair, "after all those longing years I finally bumped into him."
"I'm listening. Continue."
"Things started to occur since I moved out. And to me, it doesn't make any sense. It should've happened sooner when I'm still here." I breathed. "Then I'll know what to do rather than hearing it through a phone call two hours away."
"Listen, you moving out isn't a mistake. Your dad is the main reason as to why you're experiencing all these troubles. Don't blame yourself."
Harry walked towards me and embrace me real tight. I can smell his boyish perfume and feel his warmth. At this very moment, I felt so secure.
Suddenly my phone started ringing with an unknown caller ID.
"Who's that?" Harry asked as he picked it up. "It's an unknown number."
"Give me that." I said, taking my phone from Harry's hand. I studied the number first but I can't figure out who might be calling. I decided to answer and find out.
"Hello?" I began. "Hello..." A raspy old man's voice replied. Without a doubt I knew it was my father.
"How did you-"
"I heard the news that you decided to study in California..." He slurred. It is possible that he's drunk. "It would be an honor to move in to that old man's mansion with you."
I looked at Harry confused, "What do you mean by that? old man?"
He chuckled and it sent a shiver to my spine. He repeatedly called my name as if it were a lullaby.
"Your mother never mentioned?" He asked in a provoking tone. "He married a man-"
"Wait." Harry said as he stepped forward grabbing the phone. He pressed the mute button so that the caller will not be able to hear us. "Who is this?"
"My father." I replied straight to the point. "Now give me-"
"No." He hit the unmute button. "Excuse me sir, I believe you're going out of line. It is known that you decided to extract information without your daughter's consent. Why did you get her number or even their new address to cause conflict?"
"I see who it is. You're that man who accompanied my daughter"
"It doesn't matter who accompanied who. What you're doing is straight up stalking and violence. If you're not going to stop, I'm afraid we're going to press charges." Harry's jaw tensed as he pressed the end button.
He walked right past me and knocked on the door where my mother stayed. Within a second, my mother opened the door with a confused yet expectant expression, "What is it, dear?"
"I am sorry but I think it's best you move in with Alison. You can go with us and buy a plane ticket-"
My mom walked forward, holding Harry's hand into hers. A sad smile visible on her semi-wrinkled face, "I appreciate the thought of you caring about me Harry..." she began.
