Lily had believed his story when he'd shown her the piece of paper.
She had, tentatively, called him dad once. She hadn't since, but it was progress.
They'd made scrambled eggs together when they'd arrived home the first night. She'd certainly learnt well from Ant- Adrian. He was a chef now, apparently. Owned his own restaurant.
Once the fuss over Rachel had died down, he'd set the place alight. Preferably with Ant- Adrian inside it.
He'd dyed her hair a dark brown, and taken her to a hairdresser to have it cut short.
She looked sweet like that, he had to admit. The short bob framed her found face and long neck.
Today, he'd enrolled her at a new school, telling everyone she was his now-dead, estranged sister's daughter, and he was looking after her.
She'd grudgingly started to respond when he called her Lily, instead of Rachel.
