Y/n woke up to the familiar cold of her blankets being ripped away and the infamous smirk of her twin. She sighed deeming it too early to even glare at her twin let alone give a comment. She made her way to her closet pulling out new clothes before walking past her twin who pursed his lips at her behaviour. Why hadn't she yelled? She always did. He pushed the thought aside as he went downstairs to find his father talking to his mother in hushed tones. When Lucious saw his son standing there he glared.
" You shouldn't eavesdrop Draco. How much did you hear?" He asked this cold icy voice sending shivers down his spine.
" Nothing father," Draco replied in a curt tone as he stood still under his father's gaze. Once he looked away Draco scurried off to the kitchen where the house-elf was, he told the elf to get him some tea for his sister and him seeming as she was stressed, he didn't know what about but he knew her well enough to know when she was upset.
When his twin finally arrived with her hair still wet from the shower and took the cup without uttering a single word Draco thought he shouldn't bring it up. He did look over as she took sips from her drink seemingly lost in thought. She sighed setting her cup down on the counter before looking at her brother. For the first time, he could remember she looked scared. She was, she was so bloody scared to lose him, to lose her mum.
" Draco, he's back," It came out as a whisper but it was loud enough for him to look at her shocked at the words she uttered. " He's back, and I'm so bloody terrified Draco." She looked up to her twin who had a shocked expression. She'd never said that before, not even when they were kids and Draco had knocked over a vase that sent their father off having already been in a bad mood. She took the yelling and mended the wounds he left without shedding a single tear or uttering a single word.
" You don't have to be, we won't join them," Draco said but even he knew that was a lie it was inevitable that they would both soon join. The girl let out a hollow laugh taking a sip of the hot tea.
" We both know that a lie, sooner or later father will ask and you will agree to want to prove yourself and then I'll follow." She didn't look up at her brother as she swirled the tea in her hands. In all the years in their life, this was the first time she had let any emotion show whether it was just them or not. She remembered the words her father told them every time they showed any slightest of fear or happiness. 'It's not the Malfoy way to have emotions'. That soon was engrained into the girls head leaving her with nought but a cold icy glare. She once was happy, long, long ago. Before even their third birthday was the last time Draco truly saw her smile.
" Y/n-" He was stopped as her cold icy eyes met his own. The glare made even him cower under it and he'd seen it plenty of times. He shut his mouth quickly and they drank the rest of their tea in silence as Y/n wanted to relish at this moment. The moment she and her brother were still human, could still feel things before they became one of them. She sighed after finishing her drink and setting in on the counter, she got up her back straightening and her head held high like always as she walked out of the kitchen. She hadn't shed a tear since she was a baby she certainly wouldn't now.

Being on the train felt like a disgrace, a disservice to Hogwarts itself. She knew that Draco didn't fully understand what was happening and she would like to keep it that way for a little while longer. It was hard though, it was hard to cover up the bruises or cuts she had received the previous night for telling Draco even if he already knew. She put up with the slight sting in her shoulder as she moved as if it was nothing just a minor inconvenience. Draco saw it himself, father hit her, cut her with his ring then jabbed her in the gut with the cane, all the while she kept the cold icy stare not making a single sound. After he had left Draco had rushed to his twin making sure she was all right and after she got up pushing him off he supposed she was alright. He didn't want to make her any angrier.
