Lucy walked through the empty halls keeping her steady rhythm, wanting to get to the enormous dining room where her aunt Alberta was waiting for her. She was quite stubborn sometimes, an example being today, when she didn't agree on going with Peter to Telmar to attend their cousin Caspian's wedding to the future queen. The princess decided to rather have a meeting with the duchess about potential spouses and marriages, which was a subject they already had discussed in the past, but was still on thinking.
"I thought you'd never come, darling. Now let's get to the talking." aunt Alberta said giving the princess a cup of tea, waiting for her niece to settle down on her fur covered chair. "I already told Peter to invite the young royal Archeland twins to visit us for two weeks, so now we can discuss about other royal families we could marry you and your brother into. I taught about Calormen's prince, George ...."
"Excuse me, aunt Alberta, but why didn't I know about this arrangement of yours with Archeland's royal family?" the young monarch asked, drinking some of her herbal tea. Her face changed as she continued to speak. "Isn't my opinion important to you? After all I'm the future queen, not you. I expected you'd tell me everything you'd decide and ask me about what I think of it, but I might say you didn't and won't."
"Of course it is, Lucy, but Peter agreed to do it and it meant you did too. We've been discussing about this since last Christmas, so I thought you'd want to take charge now, due to the fact that it was your idea to invite them in the first place, if I recall. " the duchess excused herself, tacking a small bite out of a cookie.
"Sorry, auntie. I shouldn't have questioned you like that. Please, do continue." Lucy said letting her eyes travel to the floor. Why was she so stubborn all the time? Why couldn't she be a normal princess and accept what was told? She never understood why someone should decide who she'll love and marry in the future, while she was fully capable to think on her on. Maybe it was written in the stars, this strange legacy for someone to decide your life, not you, but this young woman wasn't going to stand silent and let her life be controlled, she would share her opinions as much as she could, hoping it would affect her in a good way. At least her stubbornness could help her a little, after all.
When the meeting was over the girl strolled down through the empty rooms again, imagining what it would be if her parents were there too, watching her steps closely, not letting her fall down and hurt herself. Her parents died when her and Peter were 4 years old, due to an atack at their cabin in the woods, where they went to relax, on a beautiful summer day. Peter missed them the most, while Lucy kept her head high and started to deal with the kingdom's problems, closing herself to other people then familly and necessary alliances. At only 12 years old, the princess already could talk about politics and the needs of Narnia better than a 30 years old man, her brother deciding to take care of the army, leaving his sister at command of other subjects. They were so appropriate to eachother, that even the lords didn't dare to make an intervention when the two would occasionally argue, knowing the royals didn't need any help on calming theirselves off. Some of them often said the twins were to young and unstable to rule the country so that they could take the control in their hands and play the monarchs as a puppetteer plays his dolls. Of course that never happened, because let's be serious, she wouldn't think twice of chopping their heads off if they dared to at least wander the miserable thought in their heads.
