That night did not end the way Jaelynn had expected. She was home alone in that bathroom laying on the cold floor for at least another five minutes after she drug the blade across her skin. Her parents had come home earlier than expected from their date.
"Jaelynn, sweety! We're home." Jaelynns mom sang out in her happy cheery voice. Rachel had sat her purse down on the island in the kitchen when she had gotten a gut feeling that there was something wrong.
"Derek honey. Where's jae?" Rachel called out for her husband who was just then walking through the front door. "She's supposed to be here." He replied walking into the kitchen with his wife. "Why?" He asked while getting a cup out of the tall cabinet.
Rachel's heart had a stinging feeling, a bad feelings. " Jae?" Rachel called out. At this point she was frantic, because typically anytime Rachel and Derek go anywhere Jaelynn was always in the kitchen to greet them. Rachel didn't get a reply. She looked to her husband who was now dead quite. "She probably just went to sleep, she hasn't been getting much sleep the past few days." Derek said pooring the wine into the glass.
"You're right. I'm going to go check on her." Rachel said walking down the hall. As she got closer to Jaelynns room the feelings had grown stronger. Rachel places her hand on the door knob and pushed it open.
Her eyes met a empty bed. Her heart started pounding even more. She looked frantically around her room, and started checking the closets and balconies attached to her room. The only place she hadn't checked yet was the bathroom. Her hand slowly reach for the gold door knob. She pushed open the door and everything left her. She let out a blood curling scream.
"Rachel!!" Derek screamed dropping his wine glass running down the hallway with all its twists and turns and right into Jaelynns room. " what is it?" He said walking to the door of the bathroom where his wife was now balling her eyes out.
" oh my god." He said rushing to his daughters side. "Go call 9-1-1.!!" He screamed at his wife.
He frantically grabbed the wrist that wasn't slit, feeling his daughters pulse. There wasn't much there. Weak and threddy. Which meant that she was minutes away from dying. If only they hadn't come home that early.
I stood in the bathroom mirror where I almost killed myself almost six months ago. Almost. That's the key word. I'm still alive. My parents aren't exactly over it. I am monitored everywhere I go. Tabs are kept on me. I don't have a bathroom door anymore.
I looked up at myself in the mirror and traced over the edges where I had opened it six months months ago. I let out a small laugh. That night changed my life forever. Months of therapy, and a gigantic faint scar from wrist to elbow. A reminder of what I almost did.
The bathroom is now empty, everything packed up in a brown box in the back of a Uhaul on its way to god knows where.
"Jae, you ready." My mom asked walking to the bedroom door. She stood there with her stupid smile that I loved to hate so much.
"Yeah. I'm coming." I said grabbing my phone off of the sink. I made it to the entrance of the room that was mine. Looking around at the bitter sweet adios.
I walked into the kitchen where they stood. " let's go." I said marching myself out of the front door and into our black Tahoe.
"We have a long long drive ahead of us. Okay, so minimal stops please unless it's absolute diar." My dad sad hoping into the front seat drivers side. He gets kinda cranky when he drives. He doesn't like to be bothered, and have terrible road range. "Got it." I said fastening my seat belt.
"Where we moving to anyway? " I asked putting both my feet up in the seat beside me. Mom and dad both gave each other a look, and they both shared words that weren't audible.
"Oh honey we must have forgotten to mention it. Uhm we bought a house, the same size as the old one if not bigger, in a town right outside of Columbus. It's small, but it also has a lot of kids your age. Theres a highschool a couple of miles from the new house, with excellent staff. The environment is way better than the one you were in." My mom said looking at me with a smile on her face. That smile was different it was as if she as asking me to like it. I crossed my arms and let out a breath.
"Great. Just fucking peachy. Starting out my freshman year of highschool in the backroads of hilbilly nation. With kids I don't know. Damn, don't you just love life." I said putting in one of my ear buds.
"Whatch your mouth." My dad said before reversing the car out of our parking lot. The one place that I've always called home. I mean sure, I had no friends, but that place is still home.
Ever since December 27 my life hasn't been the same. My parents look at me as if I'm so fragile that I'm going to break. The kids at school were trying to be nice to be out of sympathy. My best friend, gage he's is seventh grade a year below me he's tall has blondish hair brown eyes, yeah he just all together stopped talking to me, because who would want to be friends with the dead girl walking. My therapist is an actual asshole. No reason to be one I just can't stand her.
I still have some bad thoughts, but not killing myself bad. I still find myself absolutely repulsive. I gained 80 pounds since I had a feeding tube down my throat. When I was in the hospital I was still refusing to eat. Now my mom makes sure that I have some type of food. It gets annoying.
" hey mom, I'm gonna go to sleep for a bit." I said reaching throwing my blanket over me. I put my music on shuffle and and closed my eyes.
Who knows, maybe I'll like the new place. Maybe all the strange faces will turn into friendly Faces. I can only pray.
