The first little creature I have as a concept is Smiler. Smiler is not a pest, nor a creature to be feared, but rather a friend to be cherished.
Smiler is a friend, and the only friend Charley has in the story, other than Barley of course. Smilers main point in the story is to be Charley's guide and emotional support. Smiler can do tricks, dance, and make anyone smile with a good joke or two. Smiler is usually constantly reminding Charley of the past, such as good memories with Edgar before he passed. However, if Smiler is ignored, turned down, hurt, or emotionally broken by Charley, and only Charley, he turns into a being that is meant to be feared. Guilt.Guilt.

As the Old Buddy story goes, Charley leaves Edgar alone as he plays outside, leaving Edgar to die by a moving car, leaving Charley feeling guilt and sorrow. Guilt constantly reminds Charley of how awful he is in his mind, how stupid he was to leave Edgar alone, and how much he thinks Charley hated him. The only way to reverse Guilt to Smiler again is to just
Smile.
