My name is Janeczek Wojciechowski, I am one of the last defenders of Warsaw. This journal is a way to distract myself for a bit, a colleague said i should do it.

15th of September, We won against the 23rd infantry.

17th of September, The recent victory quickly vanished as we got word that the Russians have   declared war and are invading the east side of our country.

22nd of September, the Germans have cut us off from Modlin entirely, we are very low on food and the water quality keeps decreasing by the minute and it's gotten to the point to where people are having dysentery.

26th of September, I made the right decision in sending you away from Warsaw Lena, I'll come find you when I can so please stay safe until then. I should had asked for your hand in marriage sooner but I had a duty to do, I love you.

2nd of October

Janeczek was one of the many defenders of Warsaw now turned prisoners who were now being shipped in trains to wherever they were going. He was looking at a picture of Lena when he was tapped on the shoulder by a fellow soldier.

Janeczek: What is it Kowalski?

Kowalski: it's our turn to get on the train, let's go.

Both walked towards the train being herded by the Germans who had rifles trained on them and made the occasional taunt because they knew if the POWs tried anything, they had a reason to shoot them on sight. They didn't have much on them, mainly a few belongings and they clothes they were wearing, but that didn't stop the Germans from performing searches on anyone. After getting to the train cart, they were packed into it and the door was closed and locked. The one in-charge of the carts signaled the engineer that it was the last cart and that it could leave, it fired the engine and soon it was going out of Warsaw.

1 AM 3rd of October

Janeczek was awakened by a wide awake Kowalski.

Janeczek: Hey stop I'm awake!

Kowalski: I found a way out.

Janeczek: You did!?

Kowalski: Yeah it's over here, there's a few rotten boards over here.

We got all of the people in our cart to help us get the boards out, it would had taken longer but one person managed to sneak a small crowbar and a knife under their coat.
We were also lucky to have gotten out into the 2nd last cart so we started dropping and laying flat against the rails until the train passed and we all gathered up.

1: What do we do now?
2: We have to find where we are first.
3: look, it's a sign. It's says this leads to Olsztyn.

Kowalski: i heard that there's a lot of us who are fleeing to other countries.

1: If we can get to the coast we can get to Sweden.

Janeczek: I uh, have some where else to go.

2: where are you going?

Janeczek: i need to go to Ostroda.
