POSTURE

Posture is important to your appearance and also for your future health. A Pink Girl has excellent posture. What happens when you have had bad posture all of your life and you reach your elderly years? You're left hunched over and stiff. Now imagine when you will look like at 85 years old. Will you be hunched and stiff or straight and flexible?

Poor posture can lead to excessive strain on your postural muscles and may even cause them to relax when held in certain positions for long periods of time. These muscles are more prone to injury and back pain.

Let's start with sitting first, as it is something most girls learn as children.

- Make sure both your knees and most of your legs are lined up and squeezed next to each other. One leg should not be in front of the other. By sitting down with your legs together, you will keep your undergarments from showing, no matter how short your skirt may be.

Practice by putting a coin between your knees as you sit. Your goal is to not let the coin fall until you stand up. Sitting with your knees together, even in jeans, is good practice as it keeps you mindful and in the habit of sitting ladylike.

- You have two main options for your feet: flat on the ground or crossed at the ankles. If you are short enough that your feet don't touch the floor, be sure to go with the ankle-cross. When crossing your ankles, be sure to do so with your knees still together. There should be no space between your ankles.

Ankles crossed is best achieved if you sit at a slight angle. Many find this to be a more flattering and comfortable position.

- Do not lean back into your chair. For formal occasions, it's most appropriate to sit in the center of the seat with your back not in contact with the chair. Also, do not lean forward and slouch in your chair.

Good form is excellent for your back and you are more likely to be taken seriously when you go in for a job interview in the future.

Now let's move to standing.

- Bear your weight primarily on the balls of your feet.

- Keep your knees slightly bent.

- Keep your feet about shoulder-width apart is a casual setting. In more formal settings, stand with your feet together with one foot behind the other. The back foot should be in a ten o'clock position.

- Let your arms hang naturally down the sides of the body.

- Stand straight and tall with your shoulders pulled backward.

- Tuck your stomach in.

- Shift your weight from your toes to your heels, or one foot to the other, if you have to stand for a long time.

Practice your posture in front of a mirror. Don't worry if you slip. It's alright. No Pink Girl is perfect starting out. Eventually, perfect posture will come so naturally, you won't even have to think about it.

Remember, having proper etiquette and good manners will not make you a stuffy person. It will make you a graceful lady who knows how to handle herself in different social settings. The most difficult part of growing up is learning how to conduct ourselves. Being a Pink Girl is all about embracing ourselves as women and being the absolute best versions of who we are. Some of us are loud, energetic ladies while others are soft-spoken and mild. Some of us like to wear bows and lace while others prefer black leather and studs. Whoever you are, you are beautiful. Remember that.
