Chapter 1: Hurt

14 years later.....

Coventry,New Gotham

December 6,1980

5:30 pm

A man shadows his greatest fear and confines himself to an idea. His greatest asset only relies on what he can grasp. In the dark, comes out a different person. A cold hearted and ruthless individual. The question is are you that man. The lone shark asked Carlos.
Gives him a job, to send a message to a family down in Park Row. The Sorano family had been inconsistent with their deadlines and owed $5k dollars plus another $1k from their business start up. Lone Shark Mattis was not pleased since they've given them too many warnings and even a beating to one of their cousins; however, nothing seemed to change their minds. Mattis had no other option, but to send Carols and a couple of thugs to attack and possibly kill one of the family members.

Carlos and a couple of 4 latino Americans join him in the onslaught. As they exited the warehouse, the 5 of them entered a parked 1980 Dodge Plymouth Voyager. The trunk of the vehicle was filled with boxes of narcotics,submachine guns,ak-47s, .44 magnums,grenades, and crack. It was difficult for Carlos to sit in the back, given the amount of items. He would have to sit in the car for about 15-20 minutes due to the traffic at the pioneer bridge. The Coventry was only 3.5 miles from Park Row, but the busy roads made it seem so distant.

Upon the arrival on Pioneer Bridge, the Dodge Plymouth is approached by a Gotham Police Chevy Caprice. The officer appeared to be suspicious about the vehicle and proceeded to prepare their siren. As their sirens lit up, a sudden burst of fear finds its way in their vehicle, full of illegal narcotics. The leader tells them to calm down and get their bribe money ready. Emanuel is left incharge of the bribes while Carlos sits in the back hiding his fire arm. The leader insists that if anything goes wrong, he must pull the trigger. He puts his hand lower into the side of the door handle.
The officer proceeds to approach cautiously as Carlos vaguely observers his movements. The officer insists, for the driver's license registration. The driver then pulls out a fake identification. His name was originally "David Mendoza." , but according to the id, he was known as John Lopez, an employee of Macy's. The Cop remains calm, but maintains his suspicions. Afterwards he asks the driver to step out of the vehicle and open the trunk. Emanuel then quickly slips in the money and the driver steps out. As he proceeds to show the contents of the trunk, the Leader begins to instruct Carlos to act naturally, but not to hesitate if things go wrong. Carlos lifts the gun from his left hand as he begins to angle his arm towards the reer end. The angle of his gun seemed to move simultaneously with the trunk. Fear and uncertainty begins to fill Carols and is unsure if the cop will take the bribe. The trunk then finally opens and the cop prepares to pull out his gun, as Carlos precedes to take action. As choices are being determined , the driver quickly pulls $10,000 out of his pocket. The money was wrapped in 3 layers of rubber band with twenty $500 dollar bills. Moments after, the cop slowly begins to hesitate and remembers that his rent is due in a week. Though he remains unsure whether he should take the bribe. Carlos then begins to angle his gun on the back seat without looking at the officer. As uncertainty begin to clear, the cops makes his final decision and takes the $10,000 bribe, with a smile on his face. He apologizes to the driver and thanks him for the offer.
Carlos and rest are is relieved and continue their 3 mile drive.

About 15 minutes after the incident, they arrive at 1340 Castle Dr Park Row. The members of the gang vacate the vehicle with their guns ,bats, and crowbars ready. Carlos and the rest of them make their way into the apartment.
One of them knocks on the door. As the door opens, the wife is present and she runs to her room. The Emmanuel then immediately chases after her. The rest of them take the husband and child hostage. Fear and panic spread across the household, while screams are heard in the room. Emmanuel then proceeds to call the wife a tease, as she begs him to get off. Carlos proceeds to intervene, but a gang member threatens him with a gun. Moments after, the leader proceeds to beat the husband with a bat and with his own fists.
A moment of horror overcomes Carlos' conscious and realizes what kind of monster he's become, as he sees the little boy crying and the screams and moans in his mom's room. As the gang leader stops, the husband had been beaten to death. Moments after, Emmanuel stops and lets the wife go. The wife starts crying begging not to kill her son and that it was her fault. She was the one who forced her husband to take loans for her Cafe.
The leader then chuckles and decides to do the same thing Emmanuel did to her. Finally Carlos snaps and shots him.

Park Row

6:30 pm

Left in a trembling state of anger and rage, Carlos watches himself as he unloads a full round on the gang leader. Emmanuel proceeds to intervene, but Carlos incapacitates him momentarily and kills him, as the wife runs away with her own child. 3 of the remaining gang members chase after the wife as Carlos tails them.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?!! Carlos shouted as he desperately searches for his formerly gang mates. As he reaches the alley way , he sees Solomon Wayne Courthouse surrounded by GPD swat cars. Panicking, Carlos decides to run back to the Alley, where he is cornered by the remaining gang members. Carlos is forced to surrender as one of them proceeds to point a gun to his head.
As Carlos begins accepts his fate with dignity , Swat proceeds to surround the alley.

"Gotham PD, we have the area surrounded. Drop your weapons or we will use deadly force." The police Captain shouted.
The criminals are force to lay down there weapons as the police cuff them and read them their rights. Carlos looks in fear as he is aware of the horrors that await him.
"Sgt. Gordon where do we take them."
asked a swat officer.  "Take them to blackgate."

Rain began to pour along the lifeless streets of Gotham, as Carlos watched from the swat car door. His life loneliness began to flash in his eyes as he begins to regret every decision he made since the night he walked into that Orphanage. "I should've killed him" Carlos whispered. The Swat Officer smacks him across the face with an assault trifle and tells him to shut it. A taste of blood and disgust pours out of Carlos' mouth. He feels tempted to show some disrespect. So he spits in the officers face. The 2nd officer knocks him out with a single punch.

Carlos wakes up and finds himself at the gates of blackgate. The prison guards line them up in groups of 2. Then Warden comes out to make a statement. "So for those of you new here, you will be put on trial in the next few months. Soon some of you will be sent to New Jersey State Prison or Rikers." Said Warden Quincy Sharp. Then "Though those of you who take the plea for insanity, will be sent to Arkham Asylum, where you will be greeted by Warden Dr. Hugo Strange. With that said, these guards will escort you to through this shit hole of a prison." The guards take the inmates to their cells and proceed to go on through the night shift.
