Ever since they were kids Louise had always been compared to her brother, he was the first to walk, the first to speak, the first to read, the first to write and the first... no, the only one to successfully cast magic. He had managed to pull it of at the age of 5 and while only a weak spell it was enough for most who saw it to declare him a prodigy, and Louise? they always said the same thing about her ''oh just give her some time, she's always been behind''.
...
The years had continued like that, day in and day out, ''i can do it'' she thought ''i've always caught up'' it was a view she held for quite some time, until a bit after their 14th birthday when there mother had demed him worthy of a sword-wand.
She would have lost all hope then were it not for her dear, angelic sister who always believed in her and for Wardes who had proclaimed to love her despite her magical ineptitude.
Then came the start of their schooling at the Tristan academy of magic, the first day and they were to do a simple levitation spell, she was the last to go after some who passed, a surprising amount who didn't nail it down and of course her brother who passed with flying colors. Most had thought nothing of the explosion but she couldn't take it, especially not with him giving her that sympathetic, sad but oh so! reassuring smile as if he knew how she felt when she just walked out of the classroom to lock herself away and cry herself to sleep.
...
A few weeks into her second year and a lot of things had drastically changed, her brother had not just excelled at the school but was amongst the very best there!, while she was - metaphorically of course - getting dragged through the dirt.
The time of the familiar summoning was but a few days away and she was - on the inside - a nervous wreck, everything in her life had gone wrong so why would this be any different!.
At least she - despite knowing how wrong it was - was happy about the recent and completely out of the fields news that her brother, the straight A student had gotten caught fighting one of her classmates and tried to break into the restricted section of the library, maby, just maybe he would get expelled with her and get a feel for how she had to live!... no, what in Brimir's name was she thinking!.
---
It was in the middle of the day before the familiar summoning and Louise was running down the hall, she took an abrupt halt in front of the medical room and threw the door open, there in the corner of the room laid her brother's bruised and battered form still reeking of burnt flesh.
She approached him slowly, and finally, uterd there first shared words in months ''Lous?'' her tone was low, as if talking or even breathing too loudly would hurt him.
He hummed in a low tone for a second before rising a bit in the bed causing the cover to slide down to his waist and reveal his tightly bandaged and Heavily bruised upper body.
His dull dark pink eyes seemed to shine a bit when he saw her, but that got disrupted quickly by his messy silver blond hair. ''ah, so all i had to do to get you to talk was to nearly die, il take note of tha- ofh''
His smug sentence got interrupted when Louise - quite painfully mind you- buried herself in his chest and gave him a very likely rib crushing hug. They stayed like that for a few moments while Louise was totally not! trying -and failing- to stop her sobbing ''w-what happened to you?'' she managed to choke out not really expecting an answer, to which he looked down on the top of her head ''well'' he started, with a sheepish tone ''i, kinda... tried to change the summoning spell'' Louise froze.
