(1/2 of a scene from a Fem!Sasuke x Naruto story that is in the works as soon as i figure out the timeline)
-Just as he was about to run after them however something in his peripheral vision caught his attention, sitting on one of the branches by the tree line was a rather large eagle staring directly into his eyes. The odd behavior of this mighty bird however was not what caught his interest but the rather... distinctive eyes that it possessed.
As if noticing the twinkle of recognition in his eyes the eagle nodded once before taking of and gliding further into the forest.
Taking a step towards it Naruto hesitated and looked over in the direction that his team was running, taking a moment to make a shadow clone and sending it in their direction he then took of after the eagle.
After a few minutes he had completely lost track of the bird yet was certain that he was going in the right direction as it had not deviated from its path once during its visible flight, his conviction proved itself useful for once as he came upon a peaceful clearing with a small pond by its edge.
Taking a hasty look over the surroundings Naruto's breath caught in his throat as his eyes locked onto the form that he had been obsessing over for the past few years just... sitting there, peacefully, by the edge of the pond with her knees drawn up to her chin.
As if sensing his eyes on her form she turned her head around and locked eyes with him for a drawn out moment before slowly patting the ground beside herself.
After taking a deep breath he slowly walked up to Satshi, her eyes tracked his rigid movements as her trademark mocking smile grew upon her lips, yet this one was different from the others, it was softer, warmer than the ones that he was used to.
Slowly lowering himself onto the ground while crossing his legs Naruto spent a moment to simply take in her figure, while her physique wasn't to different from the last time he saw her the way that she carried herself was different, more relaxed than he had seen her for years.
They spent a while just, sitting there, in silence.
Naruto didn't know what to say in a situation that was so different, so adverse to all the other 'meetings' that the two of them had had over the years while Satshi seemed content to just sit there and stare out over the pond.
''I've missed you''
Those simple words sent Naruto's head into what felt like an endless loop.
''You have no idea how many times i wanted to just, drop everything'' Satshi said while she picked up a sizable stone and tossed it in an arc to plop into the water.
''To just run back to the village, to try and go back to a time when everything was easy to understand, where i didn't have to bother worrying over whether every edible thing that i saw was poisoned, where i didn't have to wonder which person would try to stab me in the back that day, where i didn't have to get up in the morning having barely slept and wonder what kind of hell that i'd have to go through to get to go back to sleep''
After every sentence she drew her knees closer to her chest until she was sitting in the fetal position while blankly staring out onto the pond, Naruto hesitated for a moment before putting an arm over her shoulder and drawing her into his chest.
She didn't show any reaction for a while until she released her legs and slowly wrapped her arms around his midsection, Naruto wasn't certain how to handle a suddenly touchy Uchiha and was about to start a blunder of a conversation when she continued speaking.
''i did it''
He looked at her for a while waiting for her to elaborate, she did not ''you did what?''
She seemed to shake for a moment before breathing in and murmuring her reply into his chest
''i killed him, i killed Itachi and now i don't know what to do''
He wasn't certain how to deal with this, if only she had been crying then he could have acted like that stable rock that would be needed but instead she seemed rather indifferent about accomplishing one of her supposed life goals and the whole killing her last relative.
''and i can't even go back to the village'' she whispered more to herself than to him yet that was something he latched onto
''Why wouldn't you be able to go back?'' Naruto asked in surprise while Satshi remained quiet for a moment before she started to laugh weakly.
''you're kidding me, right?'' she wheezed out between laughs and looked up to his face which revealed her eyes to him that were dancing with mirth ''id be lucky to be executed if i got back, worst case scenario they decide that my bloodline is to important to lose and set me up as a broodmare''
A flowing fire suddenly built up inside of Naruto's veins as his mind registered what she had said. ''they wouldn't'' he growled while instinctively tightening his hold on her, she simply smiled at him and clapped him on the cheek ''oh you poor poor innocent idiot, they absolutely would~'' she said similarly to how one would speak to a toddler.
He was about to continue that point when he noticed her gaze slide down to her side ''though'' she drawled ''maybe they won't get to me first'' following her gaze Naruto realised that when he hand tightened his grip on her he had also, quite violently mind you, taken ahold of her tigh.
letting go as if she had been made out of molten steel Naruto hastily scooted away from her until there was a 'respectable' distance between them all while Satshi did the Uchiha version of laughing her lungs out.
'This isn't how it's supposed to be! sure she did joke around a bit - mostly at my expense - back then but not like this!' Naruto roared inside the sanctity of his own head.
''you know'' he snapped out of his inner turmoil and went rigid when he felt a hand gracing the back of his neck ''i'd never thought that you'd be so easily flustered, you've always struck me as the kind of guy that wouldn't even know to react even if women threw themselves at you'' she whispered into his ear as she snaked her arms over his shoulders.
Naruto had no idea what to do, on one side this was more womanly attention than he had received during his entire life, on another it was from Satshi and was undoubtedly a big joke all while he -dearly- wished that it wasn't.
Many would likely call him denser than lead but that wasn't really the case, he'd realized that he cared deeply for Satshi some time ago yet that didn't mean that it was the reason that he was so desperate to get her back. No, his top priority when it came to her was her wellbeing which he believed would be better in the village alongside him and everyone else.
His derailed thoughts were brought back to the present when Satshi lightly blew into his ear ''did i break you?'' she murmured.
