(Adelaide's P.O.V)

Running. For safety, for my family, for everything. I duck into an alley way and check behind me. He was about 6 paces back. I've been running for over half an hour now, getting further and further away from home. Pushing myself to the absolute limit, I am able to lose him. Without thinking, I throw myself into the nearest bush, praying that he would just carry on. A few seconds later I hear footprints thud past the bush without a sign on stopping. I let out a sigh of relief that I didn’t know I was holding in. Suddenly, my chest started getting tight which distracted me from my current situation. Before I knew it, I was laying on the floor incredibly breathless. Confusion and exhaustion takes over me as I was lying on the floor with no chance of getting my breath back any time soon. I was starting to feel light headed and dizzy.

“Hello? Is anyone there?”

I heard what sounded like an old lady call from on the path beside the bush. Trying to make as much noise as I couldn’t speak hoping that she could hear me. Suddenly, a concerned face appeared above me asking me questions I couldn’t answer.

“Sweetheart can you hear me? How many fingers am I holding up? Do you know where you are? What’s your name dear?

I felt like punching that woman, isn’t it obvious that I can’t reply?! Thankfully she pulled out her phone and called an ambulance.

“Helllo?? Yes, hi I am here with a girl who needs medical attention… no I don’t know her… beside the main park… i have no idea, I just fund her in the bush… thankyou very much!”

She knelt down beside me and took my hand reassuring me. At this point, I felt like I wouldn’t be conscious by the time the ambulance comes. Sweat was pouring down my face and I couldn’t control myself.

“You’re alright sweetheart, everything is going to be alright” she said but not sounding 100% herself. Slowly but surely, I was losing consciousness. I last thing I heard before falling unconscious was the sirens of the ambulance…

Beep beep beep …

Continuous sounds of something familiar. My eyes fluttered open and I stared around the strange room. The first thing I saw was my mum asleep in a chair beside me. That’s when I realised where I was. Hospital. A young doctor bust threw the door.

“Ah Adelaide, you’re awake! How are you feeling?

“Umm, okay I guess? What happened?” I hesitantly replied.

“You had a major anxiety attack and passed out due to your uneven breathing.”

By this point, my mum had started to stir and sat up, stretching.

“Adelaide!! I thought I would never see you again!! Is everything ok now? Has he gone?!” She frantically asked me.

“Mum! I’m fine!” I quickly glanced at the doctor before looking back at my mum “Can we talk about it later?”

“Ok so Adelaide, there’s no need for you to stay in for much longer. We just need to go through some important things with you and your mother. Firstly, do you understand what anxiety and panic attacks are?" She asks me gently.

2 Hours Later....

Walking out of the hospital, phone in one hand, information and research packs in the other, I felt something I have never felt before. Danger. It felt like someone was watching me. It's probably me just being paranoid. Mum and I jumped in the car and headed home. I could tell something was bothering mum. She was speeding home, faster than she usually would be. Are we late for something? I decided not to press the issue and continued to stare out the window, still with the feeling of paranoia and danger in my guts. Before I knew it, we were pulling into the drive way and my older brother, Giles, came running out the front door and attacked me in a hug.

"Adelaide! Is everything ok?!"

" Yeah I'm fine, it was an panic attack"

"If he ever comes near you, I swear to god, I will shoot him!" He angrily spat.

"Giles, honestly it's fine! Can we just go inside?"

We walked in and shut the door behind us.

"KIDS!!!! COME UPSTAIRS AND PACK A SUITCASE AND ANY BELONGINGS YOU NEED! YOU HAVE AN HOUR!" we hear our mother yell from her bedroom upstairs. Giles looked at me and seemed just as confused as I was. We sprinted up the stairs and into mums room.

"Mum what is happening" I ask her urgently.

"Go pack your suitcase, we're moving"

"WHAT" my brother yells. "WE'VE ONLY BEEN HERE FOR 6 MONTHS!"

"I know love but this is for our safety. He has put Adelaide in hospital and he keeps following us! So, we're moving to Australia. Now."
