A scientist by a name long forgotten had decided he wanted his work to become well-known. As a result of this desire, he constructed a series of experiments in attempt of creating a new world. He brought his lab gear and essentials out of retirement and immediately went to work that same day.
Before he began mixing chemicals together, he molded a sphere out of a ball of clay he found in the back corner of the closet where his experimental tools were. Once he had formed what he thought looked like the perfect sphere, he set it aside on the table and began to do the actual experiments using his beakers. In the first beaker, he mixed several different chemicals and powders together, pouring and mixing, pouring and mixing, until he was content with the outcome. While he added the last ingredient from a test tube into the beaker, he shouted, “Let there be light!” And so there was light. Knowing he could actually create his own versions of life, he then mixed his various acids and bases into the second beaker until the substance became of neutral characteristics and he called it “water”. The scientist quickly thought of an idea. What if he could make a solid form similar to water that is as equally delicious and edible? At that, he went to his closet and pulled out some more clay for molding. He split the pile into three and molded each into a different shape. “Oh, this looks lovely, but what about flavor?” the scientist muttered. He went back to his beakers and created three different liquid substances and injected them into the different clay shapes. He called this “vegetation”.
After all of these experiments and creations, the scientist sat down and wondered how he could fit all of these creations together in one. After a long while of deep thinking, the scientist glanced over at the first sphere he made out of clay—and a glance was all he needed. He immediately grabbed the sphere, the vegetation, the water, and the light, and formed it all into one, then added it to the larger sphere. When he did this, he realized he had more water than vegetation, so he thought and thought then came to a conclusion. “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water,” he said, and he called the “vault” the “sky”.
The finished product pleased the scientist, yet there was still something missing. Who could he possibly share his findings and creations with? This hatched up another idea in his overworked brain. What if he could create beings that looked exactly like him, but with more of an ignorant mindset? If these beings only knew how to speak and move in the most innocent of ways, they would surely be more interested in the scientist’s discoveries. The scientist took the last of the clay and formed an “I” shape, then added two arms, two legs, and working organs. He made this being in his image and called it “man”. The scientist thought that man, having been blessed with fragile emotions and a fragile heart, would get lonesome as time went on, so he took a part the man, split the body in two, and made another, this one slightly different than man, although both equal to one another. He called this being “woman”.
“Hello,” the man said to the scientist.
“Hello. And hello to you, too,” he said to the man then looked over at the woman.
“Hello,” she replied back to him.
The scientist presented the Earth, the light, the water, and the vegetation to the man and woman and said, “This is for you both to share and to live. You will listen to my every word, because my word is right and good. If you hear any other word beside mine, bad things shall happen.” Both the man and the woman seemed interested in the scientist and saw him as a friend, not just as the creator. Just as the scientist was to create more men and women out of clay, he realized he used the rest of what was left in the closet. “I shall make more clay. Until then, go forth and multiply. Spread my word to your spawn and to their spawn and to their spawn. My word is right and good.”
Just as the scientist left the room to make more clay for his future ideas, someone came in to the room—someone different. This man had been the scientist’s former assistant, but betrayed him and destroyed his great works. As a punishment, the scientist then fired the assistant and forbid him from ever entering his lab again. This man wore a name which no one spoke of, for he didn’t deserve any recognition from anyone.
Before this man completely entered the lab, he made sure the scientist was nowhere to be found. When he realized that it was clear, he slithered his way inside and made way to the table where the scientist was creating his new world. The man looked over the experiments quite carefully until he saw the man and the woman speaking to each other and exploring what the Earth had to offer. This sparked an evil idea. “Hello there,” the man said as he approached the miniscule people.
Being taught only politeness, the man and woman both replied with a small, “Hello”.
“Do you know where I might be able to find the scientist?” The man asked.
Both the man and the woman nodded. “Yes,” the man spoke first, “he went to the other room to find more clay. He wants to create more like us among other different things.”
The evil man nodded slowly and thought for awhile. How could he get his revenge on the scientist at this point? Surely, he had made some remarkable and breakthrough creations. “What has the scientist told you about your world so far?”
“He said that his word is all we need because his word is right and good,” the woman said.
The man smirked. He had the perfect idea for revenge. “The scientist did not tell you about anything other than his word? Why is that?”
“Because if we listen to anyone else’s word, bad things will happen,” the man and the woman both spoke in unison.
The man thought about this. “No bad things will happen. If you hear anyone else’s word, you will lose your innocence, and your creator knows this well. But I can tell you all you need to know.” The man told the two of every mystery his world and their world had to offer. When he did this, their innocence and ignorance diminished right before their eyes.
Just as the man finished with his speech, the scientist walked back into the room with more clay for molding, but dropped it in shock. “What are you doing back here? I had forbid you from ever entering my quarters again!”
The man just laughed and said, “I have come here to seek revenge. Now because they know the truth of which you kept from them, they are cursed to be all-knowing of the despair that awaits them in their reality. It looks like I’ve won.”
The scientist stared intently at the man and whispered, “For now.”
This caused the man to become angry, and as a result, he took his arm and knocked the man and the woman and the Earth off the table causing everything to break. As soon as the Earth hit the ground, the light went out.
And this was called darkness.
