Oddly, I woke up feeling awake. I turned to my right and grabbed my phone to check the time. It was 8:00 am. Why did I wake up so early?

I lazily got out of bed and went downstairs. My parents weren't in the kitchen. I went to the living room they weren't there either. I went back upstairs and checked their room.

I knocked, but no answer. I slowly opened the door and saw my mom. With a sigh of relief I went in.

"Hey mom." I said.

There was no answer. She didn't even move or look in my direction. I walked up closer to her. We were now face to face.

"Mom? Hello? Are you okay?" I asked worried.

Still no answer. I waved my hand in front of her face. She didn't even blink. Now I was starting to panic.

"Dad?" I yelled.

I searched the rest of the room but he wasn't in there. I started to look in every room. As I walked past the kitchen window, I saw my dad outside. I went outside and walked towards him.

"Dad, there you are. Is mom okay?" I asked.

There was no response. Same thing with my mom. I wasn't sure what was happening, but I was freaking out. As I was looking around I noticed a car in the street in front of our house.

It wasn't moving, but the car was running. I walked up to the drivers window. I knocked on the glass. No response... I ran back into the house and got my phone.

I called Emily.

E- hello?
H- Emily. T-There's something wrong with my parents. Are your parents unresponsive?!
E- Yes! They are! I tried talking to them, but they won't move.
H- come over to my house.
E- on my way.

This doesn't make sense. How could they just freeze like that? I don't understand... Why aren't Emily and I frozen too?

I was snapped out of my thoughts when there was a knock at the door. I eagerly opened it. It was Emily she looked so scared. I hugged her and led her to the couch.

"What's going on Hailey?" She asked.

"I don't know Em...Did you see any cars on the way here?" I asked.

"Yea I did, but they weren't moving." She said.

There was a moment of silence. There is no way everyone just went unresponsive.

"What do we do?" Emily asked.

"W-We have to go and see if there are other people who aren't frozen. It doesn't make sense if it was just us." I explained.

She nodded her head. I went upstairs to get ready. Before we left I tried to get my dad inside. After, we got in the car and just started to drive around looking for people.

An hour went by and there was no one.

"Hailey there is no one here! What do we do?!" Emily said. Slightly panicked

"There has to be! J-Just drive to that Wal-Mart right there we can look there." I said.

"Are you sure?" Emily said.

"We have to start somewhere." I said shrugging my shoulders.

We got out of the car and entered the store. It was so quiet. There were people at the cash registers and in the aisles, but they weren't moving at all.

Emily and I decided to stay together and just go down the aisles. We were walking, but were startled by a crash to the right of us. We both looked at each other and quietly walked over to the area.

We peeked out our heads around the corner of the aisle. We saw a guy. Emily and I looked at each other and nodded.

I got out of the corner and I stood in the front of an aisle.

"Hey!" I yelled.

He turned in my direction and gave me an excited, confused look. If that makes sense.

"Hey! You're the first person I've seen that isn't frozen." He said.

"Well, do you know what's going on?" I asked him.

"Nope. All I know is that my brother and I came back from New Jersey and everyone was not moving." He said.

"Brother?" I asked

"Yea he's in the snack aisle." He said.

"Well this is my friend Emily." I said as Emily came into his view.

"Since we are the only people not frozen I think we should stick together." I said.

"Sounds like a plan. I'll get my brother and you guys meet us at the front." He said.

"Okay." I said.

Emily and I started walking to the front of the store.

"I can't believe we found people." Emily said.

"Yea." I say.

"Do you think they can be trusted?" Emily asked.

"I don't know, but what I do know is that guy was hot." I say bluntly.

"Really Hailey?" Emily said slightly pushing me.

"What?! It's true." I said.

She shook her head. We waited at the doors and a few minutes later we saw two guys heading towards us. They looked almost identical.

"This is my brother Ethan and I'm Grayson." He said.

"Hey, I'm Hailey and this is Emily." I said.

There was an awkward silence.

"So... what now?" Grayson said.
