Kacey Smith woke up to the beeping of her alarm and pressed the snooze button, rolling over in her bed. She pulled the covers up to her chin and laid back, closing her eyes.
"Wake up!" Kacey's older brother Zac said, opening Kacey's door and turning on the light.
"Just five more minutes." Kacey mumbled under her blankets.
"Ha, you're funny." Zac replied, ripping the covers off Kacey. Kacey sat up and flared at her brother while shielding her eyes from the light. "We have to get to school early today, remember?"
"I do now." Kacey said, getting out of bed and pushing her brother out of her room. "Stay out please."
Kacey walked over to her closet and pulled out her favorite pair of jeans and a grey sweater and laid them out on her bed. She walked into her bathroom and brushed her teeth, then proceeded to get dressed, brush her hair, and apply some light makeup.
Kacey walked down the stairs and put a piece of bread in the toaster while tying her shoes.
"Almost ready?" Zac asked, entering the kitchen.
"Yup." Kacey replied, grabbing her toast and her backpack. "Let's go."
They got into Zac's car and Zac drove them to Lakeview High School.
"Why do we have to be at school early again?" Kacey asked Zac as they pulled into the high school.
"I volunteered to give a new student a tour of the high school." Zac told Kacey.
"Do you know anything about them?"
"Her name is Abby and she's a senior." Zac replied.
"Ooo." Kacey teased.
"Shut up."
Kacey sat down in lobby chair and waited for the bell to ring, scrolling through Instagram to kill the time.
