After we left the escape room place, Brandon suggests a place down the street that serves Spanish food and has good margaritas. We all walk together, and Brandon opens the door for all of us as we get to the restaurant. I notice he takes the opportunity to check out my ass as I walk through the doorway. I smirked to myself. The host seats us at a booth and Alex and me slide into one side and Brandon takes a seat on the other side. We all order food and its a mixture of tacos and burritos that end up covering our table. Brandon and I order frozen margaritas, while Alex orders a large regular one. As we finish stuffing our faces with the amazing food, I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. As I am pulling it out Alex begins to speak,"Brandon this place is amazing, you come here often?"
"Uh, I've been here once or twice."
I check my phone and its a text from Alex. Let's get to know our new teammate. Starting with if he has a girlfriend ;)
Ugh, here we go.
"On dates?" Alex asks.
Brandon chuckles and looks in my direction. "Maybe... why do you ask?" he smirks while still glancing my way as he finishes replying to Alex.
"Oh, no reason! Ya know, just trying to get to know you better since you are our new teammate now." She gives him her most dashing smile.
"Well, ask away. I'm an open book"
Alex starts asking Brandon a dozen questions and I begin to zone out. It's not that I don't want to know the answers, but this is not how I wanted to get to know Brandon. Even though I started off hating him, he is growing on me. He seems like a nice guy and if we are going to work well together then I guess we should learn more about him. I zone back into the conversation...
"Hey Izzie, you okay over there?" Brandon asks me.
"Uh, yeah sorry about that."
Brandon laughs,"I guess I'm not as interesting as I thought"
Alex chimes in "I was just about to ask Brandon if he has a girlfriend or not"
Brandon's face falls. He looks out of the window for a second and then down at the table.
"Um, yeah actually I do"
I knew it. No way a guy as charming as him doesn't have someone.
"... but uh I don't know how much longer it's gonna last" he continues.
"Why's that" I finally join the conversation. I put on a disinterested face even though I am a little disappointed. He was flirting with me before, wasn't he?
Brandon looks me straight in my eyes and his face looks a little sad as he speaks "We've been together for 6 years. Since high school. Most of that was long distance. But she's the only girl I've ever been with"
Wait. He's only been with one girl?
"and I moved out here to be with her. I couldn't do the distance anymore." He almost whispers.
There was just silence for a few seconds.
"But that doesn't answer your question. I don't know how much longer I can be with her because she's in grad school and I never see her anymore. It's like we might as well be long distance again. I just need more than to see her once every week."
The entire time Brandon has been talking about this girl. I haven't been able to look at him. I've been playing with my straw in my margarita and just letting him speak.
"Why do you only get to see her once a week?" Alex asks.
"She works two jobs and has a ton of projects to do with her classmates. She rarely even comes back to the apartment. Rachel is a free spirit, she didn't even want to live with me when I moved out here."
"You live together?" I cut in.
"Well, like I said she's only there like once a week. So, I guess so, if you want to call it that"
"Hmm" is all I say in return. Why am I mad?
Brandon clears his throat. "I think I'm just scared. Like I said, I've never been with anyone else and she's comfortable. But I guess that's not really a word you should call your girlfriend. I don't want to be comfortable. I want fire." as Brandon finishes speaking, he shifts his legs under the table to be intertwined with mine. Heat rises to my cheeks as well as a few other places on my body.
"Fire?" Alex asks while laughing. "Like sparks in the movies?"
"Yeah, why are you laughing at me? You don't believe in that stuff?"
"Hell no, I don't" Alex says while cracking up.
"And how about you Izzie?" Brandon says in a deeper tone as I start to move my legs from his. He tightens his legs around mind as he continues "do you believe in that feeling?"
How can I not, when that's all I'm feeling right now. Sparks everywhere and heat going straight to my core.
"She damn sure didn't feel that with her ex, right girl?" Alex continues laughing. She was never one to believe in true love.
"Ex, huh?" Brandon smirks.
"Yeah, he was a real jerk" I say quietly. I hate talking about him.
Alex begins laughing louder and then states "You mean jerk off, stupid kid couldn't even get my girl to finish"
I spit the sip of margarita I was taking and just stare at Alex. I cannot believe she just said that. I mean it is true, but I didn't need Brandon of all people to know that.
"Sorry, babe. It just slipped out." Alex apologizes and gives me a small smile.
"Well, it looks like we've all had enough to drink, you guys ready to head out?" Brandon says, not making eye contact with me as his unlaces our legs.
Does he feel weird knowing my ex never made me cum? Or does he think I'm weird for not being able to finish with a guy? I shake my head clearing those thoughts. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks.
We all get up to leave once we've paid our checks. We get to the parking lot and Brandon hugs both of us goodbye.
"See you guys on Monday!" he says as he hops into his car.
