"ALEX, YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR YOUR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL", my mother yelled from downstairs. "I'm coming", I yelled back. I was just finishing my outfit for school. Since we just moved to Texas from California, I decided to wear a more southern outfit so I would fit in better. I was currently wearing a purple flannel shirt, a pair of faded blue jeans, and some tan cowboy boots with little swirly designs on the side. And to top it off, I got a cowboy hat that matched my boots. I glanced in the mirror at my ensemble. Yep, I definitely looked southen enough. Once I decided that I looked acceptable, I grabbed my backpack, ran downstairs, and scarfed down a piece of buttered toast. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my mom staring at me with her eyebrows furrowed. "Wut," I mumbled which bits of toast flying in all directions. "You're going to school dressed like that?" my mom asked. "Um yeah, we just moved to the south and this is what they wear down here", I replied. "Okay, well have a good day at school...partner", my mom chuckled."Byee", I replied while running out the door. Luckly, since we lived close enough to my new school ,I walked to school, and got to look at our new neighborhood and our new neighbors. As i walked past their houses, I noticed that a bunch of them were staring at me like I had sprung legs out of my eyes. I tried to be friendly and wave but they just looked at me with disapointment. Well thats weird, I thought. Southern people do wear these clothes....right? I mean i had spent the last 3 nights watching old western movies, studing them like a bible. When I finally got to school, I was late so had to run to my class. "Ow!" I exclaimed. I thought running in boots was easy, like in the movies. Once I got to the correct room, I took a deep inhale and opened the door. As soon as I walked in, everyone turned their heads and stared at me exactly like the neighbors, with disappointment and confusion. To ease the awkwardness, I gave my biggest smile and exclaimed in my best southern accent, "Howdy y'all, Im yer new classmate!"

Hey guys!! I know its been forever and a day since I announced this book, but I FINALLY finished chapter 1. In my defense, school got really busy with midterms and I had to study in my free time. Hope you enjoyed this chapter, the next 1or 2, depending on how active I feel on the break, will be coming during Christmas break!! Okay, I'll stop talking now, bye!!
